IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Brian Jones scored a season-high 32 points to key a second-half rally, and Jamie Holmes scored seven of his 18 points in the second overtime Saturday to help lead Santa Clara to an 83-81 win over Chattanooga for third place in the Hawkeye Challenge.
Justin Holbrook scored 13 points for Santa Clara (4-3). Chattanooga (2-4) was led by Idris Harper's career-high 27 points and a career-best 23 points from Rongie Cowser.
Jones' bank shot in traffic on the left wing with 4.1 seconds to play in regulation sent the game into overtime tied 62-62. Jones scored five of his team's seven points in the first extra period, but Harper swished an off-balance 3-pointer with 8.4 second remaining that tied the game 69-69 and sent it into the second overtime.
Jones nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Broncos a 74-70 lead with 3:28 to play, but Cowser answered with a 3-pointer.
Holmes took over in the final 2:51, hitting one of two free throws and three consecutive baskets, including a turnaround baseline jumper that gave Santa Clara an 81-79 lead with 31.3 seconds remaining.
A basket by Dusty Pullian tied the game with 6.5 seconds to play before Jones drilled a jumper from the right wing for an 83-81 lead with 1.3 seconds left.
Harper inbounded the ball with a length-of-the-court pass, which was picked off by the Broncos' Brian Vaka as time expired.
The Mocs enjoyed a 36-22 halftime lead but shot just 31 percent in the second half compared to 53.8 percent for Santa Clara.
Santa Clara returns home for final exams, which begin Monday and end Friday. The Broncos will not practice again until Wednesday night and will then begin preparation for the Dec. 13 home-opener against Fresno State.

Kyle Bailey's five assists was a career-high ... Jones' 32 points was a season-high and was four points short of his career-high set against Saint Mary's ... Jamie Holmes recorded his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds ... The overtime contest was only the second in the 19-year history of the Hawkeye Challenge and was the first double overtime contest in the tournament's history ... Santa Clara's 83 points was a season-high ... The Broncos also set season-highs for field goals made and attempted (32-73) ... Chattanooga's 11 three-point field goals was the most against the Broncos this season.
