LOS ANGELES (AP) - John Bryant scored a career-high 36 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Santa Clara to a 66-46 victory Monday over Loyola Marymount.
Bryant scored four of the Broncos' (13-12, 5-5) first 10 points to spark a 10-0 run to open the game, scored 13 consecutive points in a nearly four minute stretch and accounted for 23 of his team's 34 second-half points.
The rest of the Broncos shot a collective 12-of-30, with Brody Angley scoring 12 points.
Tim Diederichs scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half to lead LMU scorers, followed by Orlando Johnson with 10 points and Marko Deric with 10 off the bench. The Lions missed their first five shots in falling behind 10-0 in the game's first 4:07 and trailed 32-19 at the half.Bryant is the first Bronco player to score over 30 points since Travis Niesen scored 31 against San Francisco Feb. 20, 2006. The last time a Bronco scored 36 points was Feb. 21, 1998 when Brian Jones went for 36 against Saint Mary's. Bryant has hit 32 of his last 37 shots over the past three games. He hit 19 shots without a miss starting with the Broncos' game against Saint Mary's on Feb. 11.
Bryant recorded his 13th double double of season against the Lions, while Brody Angley moved within one point of 23rd all-time in program history. Angley scored 12 points in the game.
Santa Clara hosts San Diego next Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Leavey Center. The game tips off at 7 p.m. PT and will be aired live on 1220 KNTS and SantaClaraBroncos.com.
