Broncos Set Commissioner's Honor Roll Record for Second Straight Year
The West Coast Conference announced its 13th annual Commissioner's Honor Roll Tuesday, and 141 Santa Clara Broncos were recognized with honors for their athletic success and academic excellence. Santa Clara had 18 student-athletes receive gold honors (3.75-4.00 GPA) and 33 student-athletes receive silver honors (3.50-3.74 GPA). The Broncos set a new record of student athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, breaking the previous mark of 133 in the 2012-13 school year.

Six Santa Clara Teams Recipients of NCAA Public Recognition Awards For Academic Achievement
Continuing its hard work in the classroom, Santa Clara's men’s outdoor track, women’s golf, women’s rowing, women’s tennis, women’s outdoor track, and women’s water polo teams were all recognized by the NCAA as recipients of the organization's Public Recognition Awards for academic achievement. The NCAA released the APR recognition by highlighting teams that demonstrated a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APR scores within their respective sports. Specifically, these six teams posted multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. Also, men’s basketball recorded the highest four-year average APR for the West Coast Conference.

Men's Basketball Inks Aussie Native As Part Of 2014 Class
Santa Clara head men's basketball coach Kerry Keating announced Wednesday that Australian native Kai Healy has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Broncos, joining Santa Clara’s three signees from the November 2013 signing day. The 2014 Santa Clara class is complete and includes includes Stephen Edwards (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Kai Healy (Wahroonga (Sydney), Australia), Matt Hubbard (Colville, Wash.) and Evan Wardlow (Woodland Hills, Calif.).

Brownridge Named Finalist For National Freshman Of The Year; Honored On Freshman All-America Team
Already named the 2014 West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year, Santa Clara freshman Jared Brownridge was a named as a finalist for the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award on March 31 with the award going to Duke's Jabari Parker on April 4. Brownridge was also named to the 2013-14 Kyle Macy All-America Team.

In a hard fought battle the entire night, Santa Clara’s Jared Brownridge sank a 10-footer with 10 seconds left and Gonzaga’s David Stockton scored with 1.4 seconds left to lift the Zags to a 77-75 victory in the West Coast Conference quarterfinals in Las Vegas.

Two Broncos Honored By WCC Coaches; Brownridge Named Crons WCC Newcomer Of The Year
With both scoring 523+ points this season as the eighth-best tandem in school history, Santa Clara freshman Jared Brownridge and junior Brandon Clark were both honored by the West Coast Conference coaches Monday. The second-leading scorer in WCC play, Brownridge was named the Crons WCC Newcomer of the Year, All-WCC Honorable Mention and to the WCC All-Freshman team. The team’s leader in points, steal and assists, Clark was named All-WCC Honorable Mention.

Men Fall At LMU; Roquemore Sets Career Free Throws Record
After Santa Clara’s Evan Roquemore hit two free throws to break a 59-year-old school record for career free throws, LMU went on an 11-0 run in the second half to take a 45-38 lead. SCU kept battling and pulled within two twice in the final 28.9 seconds, but had to put the Lions on the free throw line and fell 75-71 in Los Angeles on Thursday night.

Broncos Fall In Hard Fought Battle At USF; Brownridge Scores 30 In Second Straight Game
Yannick Atanga’s tip-in with 53.5 seconds left pulled the Broncos within four, but Tim Derksen sank four free throws in the final 52 seconds and had a key steal as well to help lead USF to a 75-66 victory at War Memorial Gym on Saturday night. The hard-fought battle was highlighted by another career night by Bronco rookie Jared Brownridge. Brownridge tied a career-high with 30 points, including five threes and 9 of 10 from the free throw line. It was his second straight WCC game with 30+ points as he scored 30 vs. BYU on Jan. 18.

This week Santa Clara travels to Moraga on Thurs., Jan. 9 for a 7 pm match-up with rival Saint Mary's. They will then travel to Pacific for their first match-up of the year with the Tigers as the West Coast Conference's newest members. The Saint Mary's game will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area regionally and the Pacific game will be shown as the WCC Comast SportsNet Bay Area WCC Game of the Week.

Broncos Three Guards Score 20 Points Each, Lead Broncos To 76-68 Victory At Portland
With the Bronco’s three leading scorers, Brandon Clark, Jared Brownridge and Evan Roquemore scoring 20 points each, Santa Clara used a 13-2 run in the first half to win 76-68 at Portland for the second straight year at the Chiles Center on Monday afternoon. All three guards went 5 of 6 from the free throw line with Roquemore hitting five threes and Clark and Brownridge scoring three each.

With West Coast Conference play opening in December for the first time, Santa Clara lost 74-60 at No. 24 Gonzaga on Saturday night at the McCarthey Center. Brandon Clark led all scorers with 22 points, including 18 in the second half. David Stockton led the Zags with 21 points, including two key steals in the second half during a 14-3 Zags run.

Finishing off non-conference play with a 3-1 record as part of the 13th annual Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic, Santa Clara travels to Spokane to play at No. 24 Gonzaga in a 5 pm nationally-televised ESPNU game on Sat., Dec. 28. In spite of freshman Jared Brownridge’s 22 points, a 14-3 run in the middle of the second half by UNLV undid the Broncos work after they pulled within two at 17:18 on Sunday night as Santa Clara fell 92-71 to the Running Rebels in the Orleans Arena at the 13th annual Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic.

Brownridge Scores Broncos Final Five Points To Lead Broncos To Victory Over South Florida
Santa Clara went on a 13-3 run as Jared Brownridge hit a three with 53.8 seconds left to give SCU a one-point lead and then iced it with a pair of free throws with 10.8 ticks left to lead the Broncos to a 66-65 victory over South Florida in its final game of the 13th annual Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic. The Broncos were 17 of 20 from the free throw line and USF was 9 of 24.

Santa Clara Travels to Vegas For Sunday Night Date with UNLV
After collecting week-night wins vs. Radford and Sacred Heart as part of the 13th annual Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic, the Broncos will continue play in the Classic as they travel to Las Vegas for the semi-finals and finals. The Broncos are set to play UNLV at 7:30 pm on Dec. 22 in the Orleans Arena, the same site as the WCC Championship in March. The Broncos will play either Mississippi State or South Florida the next night. If the Broncos win, they will play at 7:30 pm. on Dec. 23. If they lose, they will play in the 5 pm game the same night. Both games on Dec. 23 will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.

Broncos Win Third Game In Five Days With Victory Over Sacred Heart
Using an 18-3 run over six minutes in the second half, Santa Clara battled back from a 31-27 halftime deficit to defeat Sacred Heart 70-61 behind Brandon Clark’s 30 points on Wednesday night in the Leavey Center. The Broncos are 6-5 and the Pioneers are 2-10. Santa Clara heads to Las Vegas next for a 7:30 pm date with UNLV on Sun., Dec. 22 at the Orleans Arena. Santa Clara’s quick 25-9 start in the second half, led by Nate Kratch’s eight points and Evan Roquemore’s two threes, proved to be enough for the Broncos as they won 60-42 at CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night. Roquemore moved to a tie at No. 2 on the Bronco career assists list at 510 with two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash ’96 with a pass to Brandon Clark in the second half.

A frantic final seconds saw the Broncos come all the way back from a 12-point second half deficit and take their only lead of the game with 6.9 seconds left in regulation, but Rice had the final answer on a length of the court rush and layup by Keith Washington for the winning basket in a thrilling 67-66 win for the Owls in the consolation game of the 47th Annual Cable Car Classic at the Leavey Center on Saturday night.

Basketball Hosts 47th Annual Cable Car Classic Thanksgiving Weekend
Santa Clara returns home over Thanksgiving weekend to host the 47th Annual Cable Car Classic. The Cable Car Classic, being played for the first time over Thanksgiving, will include host Santa Clara, North Dakota State, Rider and Rice. It is the longest running holiday in the country. In 31 of the Classic's 46 years, the Classic has featured a team that would receive an NCAA bid a few months later. Santa Clara won the Cable Car Classic title last year with a 69-45 victory over Wagner, the previous year's champion. Senior Marc Trasolini was named the MVP.

Broncos Fall At Notre Dame
Notre Dame, Ind. – The Broncos hung with Notre Dame until the middle of the second half, but a 12-0 run over a four-minute span from 11:06-7:07 proved to be enough for the Irish as they won 84-69. The Broncos will finish a two-game road swing at University of Notre Dame on Fri., Nov. 22 at 6 pm Pacific. The game will be shown on ESPN3 on the internet. Both Santa Clara and Notre Dame come in with a 2-1 record in the early going, dropping their last game. Santa Clara lost 86-73 at Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 16 despite 23 points from Brandon Clark for the second straight game and 21 points by Jared Brownridge. Then-No. 21 Notre Dame lost at home to in-state opponent Indiana State 83-70 on Nov. 17.

Men's Basketball Coach Kerry Keating Given Multi-Year Extension
Santa Clara University announced Friday afternoon that head men's basketball coach Kerry Keating has been given a multi-year contract extension. In addition to winning 24 games and the CIT in 2011 and 26 games and the CBI title in 2013, the Keating-led Broncos are one of just two teams nationally to finish with a post-season tournament win twice in the past seven years.

A Great Student-Athlete Graduates, Raymond Cowels III: A Career In Review
Graduating senior Raymond Cowels III has had an incredibly successful career as a part of the SCU basketball team. Four years ago, Cowels III came from Minnesota to California to pursue many young players’ dreams and play Division I collegiate basketball. It was no surprise that he was continuing his basketball career, as he lead his high school team to two state championships (2006 and 2009), was named to the All-State team twice and the All-Conference team three times.
