Seniors Raymond Cowels III And Marc Trasolini Are Ready for Their Last Year as Broncos
By Tomomi Menjo '13
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Seniors Marc Trasolini and Raymond Cowels III will be leading the Bronco basketball team as captains this season along with Kyle Perricone. The players have been working out and trying to improve their games throughout the summer. On top of all of the training for basketball, Trasolini has been enrolled in three graduate school classes this summer. In the 2011-12 season, Trasolini was not able to play due to an ACL injury, but now is more than ready to get back on the court. Cowels III had a great season last year averaging 10.1 ppg and was the only player to start every game. Trasolini (MT) and Cowels III (RC) shared with SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) how his busy summer has been and what they are looking forward to this season.
SCB: How's your summer been?
MT: Summer has been awesome. We have been working hard to improve, doing workouts, and getting stronger. I've also been taking three graduate school classes, which is challenging. I also attend Addiads Nation, which is an invite-only basketball camp down in Orange County, Calif. It was a great experience.
RC: Summer has been good, just trying to find my way around SCU and Silicon Valley, looking for internships and job opportunities. Of course I have been working on my game every day.
SCB: What have you been working on to improve?
MT: I am mainly focusing on getting stronger. I am making sure I am on the court at all times and to be able to perform ay my highest.
RC: Personally, I have been working on to become a threat off the dribble. Not just shooting, but making things happen other than just shooting. Team-wise, we have been emphasizing defense since the end of last season and to communicate better. I think it has been paying off. We look pretty good (smiles).
SCB: What are you most excited about for this season?
MT: Personally, I am excited to play. I couldn't play last season due to my injury, so I am excited to coming back and getting wins as a team. I am excited for the season to start.
RC: What am I not excited about!? It is my last year. I don't really have anything after this. I am excited to play at Duke, compete for WCC title, going to the NCAA tournament and just playing with the guys for the last time.
SCB: Marc, are you 100% ready to play?
MT: Definitely. I have been 100% clear for a while now. I'm definitely ready.
SCB: Raymond, how do you think the team is doing with the one new addition, Nate Kratch?
RC: He is doing pretty well. Our team is pretty close and he is fitting right in with the mold. He is good at rebounds. He is definitely a player to look at.
SCB: What are the team goals and your personal goals?
MT: We set the bar really high. We are all setting the standard that we all want to win the conference. It's my last shot at it just like the other four seniors on the team so to win the conference is definitely our team goal.
RC: To win games and the WCC championship title. We have high expectations and we are holding ourselves to that. Personally, I want to make the team better for next year. I want people to say "Ray helped us get better in so- and - so way."
SCB: Any message to the SCU community?
MT: Come out and support us! It will be a lot different than last year. A lot more exciting, more winning and more fun.
RC: Come support us. Thank you for all the support last season. Hope to see you all when we play in the WCC title!
