Dick Davey, on game: "You are going to have some tight games throughout the year and today was one of them. We had some good moments and some not so good moments in the game, but our guys hung in there and we got a good win. We are a team that can play at a pretty high level and at times we did that today."
Davey, on overtime: "We converted when we needed to in overtime so that was good. We got the ball down to John (Bryant) a few times and that helped us get some easy baskets."
Davey, on shooting: "They played zone a lot today and we have not seen that very much this year. It was good to see a couple of guys come off the bench and hit some outside shots for us. When our shooters got in the game in the first half, they really got us back into the game."
Santa Clara junior Scott Dougherty, on winning a close game: "It helps our confidence to win a game like this. It was a big test for us today and we showed that we are capable of grinding out games and getting a win. We had some lulls in the second half and we were down late but we were able to come back and get the win."
Dougherty, on shooting: "I did not have a very good game against Kentucky the other night and the team did not shoot well overall. I have not had a great shooting game all year but today I felt good so I was taking the shot whenever I had an opening."
Santa Clara guard Danny Pariseau, on getting ball down low: "We kept calling plays to get the ball to John (Bryant) down low and he was converting so we kept going down there. That was big for us."
Pariseau, on Utah State: "They played well defensively and took away some of the plays that we like to run. We had to adjust a bit and we were able to do that enough to come out with a win."
Pariseau, on win: "Today was probably the first game where we might not have played our best but we found a way to win. Whenever we have had an off game this year, we have lost, but we were able to pull out a win at home against Utah State. It was satisfying to grind one out. We willed ourselves to a victory."
Pariseau, looking ahead to the Cable Car: "It is going to be a great tournament with three good other teams here. We have nine wins now and it would be nice to get a couple of more before we get into conference. We have to go out and play well next week to make that happen."
Santa Clara center John Bryant, on game-tying basket: "It was a set play and I had to make that basket after I missed the two free throws earlier that could have tied it. I am glad that I was able to come back and make that shot."
Bryant, on fitness: "I am feeling good out there. I have been working hard on my conditioning and I am glad to play some more minutes and help the team."
Bryant, on team's confidence: "The team's confidence is high going into the Christmas break after a win. We also have some good momentum for the Cable Car Classic next week."
