Garcia Earns Second WCC Weekly Honor

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Sophomore starter Nate Garcia was named the West Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league Monday afternoon. It is the second honor weekly honor of the season for the righty from Santa Clara.

Garcia led the Broncos to a 6-3 victory Friday night against then-No. 13 Pepperdine. He tossed 7.2 innings of work and struck out a season-high 11 batters. His previous honor came on April 21 after he threw a complete game shutout of USF on April 18. It was his first collegiate shutout and the Broncos' only shutout of the season.

Garcia is currently second on the team with a 3.68 ERA and a 7-3 record. In 85.2 innings this season, he has struck out a team-best 75 batters, helping the Broncos to their No. 2 ranking in strikeouts in the conference.

Santa Clara owns a 33-21 overall record, which is the most wins for the program since the 1997 season. The Broncos bring the 2008 regular season to a close on Tuesday, May 20 against the Tigers of the University of the Pacific. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Stephen Schott Stadium.
