SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Junior Geoff Klein scored the Broncos' lone run Sunday afternoon with his fifth home run of the season, but the Santa Clara baseball team fell 11-1 to Gonzaga in West Coast Conference action. With the win, the Bulldogs swept the series and improved to 28-13 overall and 10-5 in league play. The Broncos dropped to 15-24 on the season and 4-11 in WCC action.

At the plate, Evan Wells went 3-for-5 for Gonzaga with three runs and two RBIs. Bronco catcher Klein went 2-for-2.
Gonzaga opened the game with three runs in the first inning. Wells was dealt a leadoff walk and then advanced to third on a Drew Heid base hit. Wells scored the first run of the game on a Tyson Van Winkle single. Heid and Van Winkle were then driven home on a Ryan Wiegand double to left centerfield. Despite loading the bases, Rivers got the Broncos out of the inning as Ernesto Ortiz struck out swinging.
The Bulldogs added another run in the fourth as Ortiz doubled and then scored on a Heid sacrifice fly.
Klein ended the shutout for Santa Clara with his fifth home run of the season. He rocketed over the right centerfield wall to make the score, 4-1.
However, Gonzaga added runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings to claim the 11-1 win.
Santa Clara had its best rally in the second inning. Klein was hit by a pitch to beginning the half. Brady Fuerst singled down the left field line and then the duo advanced on an Andrew Biancardi fly out. However, Curtis Wagner grounded into a double play to bring the inning to a close.
The Broncos return to action with the conclusion of their non-conference series against the Spartans of San Jose State on Wednesday, Apr. 29. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
