Baseball Falls to San Jose State Tuesday Night

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Santa Clara University baseball team dropped its contest Tuesday night with San Jose State by a score of 20-2 at Municipal Stadium.

The Broncos (6-12) gave up a season-high 20 runs on only 15 hits. A.J. Ampi fell to 0-3 on the season after starting the game and giving up six runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.

The Spartans (13-5) ran their winning streak to four as Donald Gemmell improved to 2-2 on the season after throwing two innings of no-hit ball. The San Jose State staff limited Santa Clara to two runs on only three hits on the night, walking only two and striking out nine.

Pat Peavey collected two runs batted in with a sixth inning single to left field, scoring Bobby Wiginton and Joe Diefenderfer.

Matt Krueger and Grant Feichtmeir combined to throw the final two innings of the game in which they held the Spartans scoreless and hitless while striking out two.

Santa Clara continues its road trip with a four-game series against the University of Hawaii-Hilo this weekend in Hilo, Hawaii. Friday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m., with Saturday's game at 1 p.m. and Sunday's double-header starting at 10:30 a.m.
