Baseball's Brodt and Cresto Picked Preseason All-WCC
 
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball players Jake Brodt and John Cresto were named to the preseason All-West Coast Conference (WCC) team by a vote of the league's 10 head coaches, it was announced on Wednesday.
 
Brodt, a senior from Huntington Beach, California, earned All-WCC first team honors last season when he started all 53 games at first base while leading the team in batting average (.338), RBIs (39) and doubles (21), a mark which was good for 23rd most in the country.  Brodt was also second on the team in slugging percentage at .532 and third in on-base percentage at .375.  
 
Cresto, a junior from Encinitas, California, was named All-WCC honorable mention in 2017, belting a team-high 12 home runs to go along with a .561 slugging percentage while starting in 52 games at third base.  His 12 homers ranked fourth in the league and his slugging percentage was sixth in the WCC.  Cresto had a .307 batting average, .362 on-base percentage and led the team in runs scored with 37.  
 
BYU, the winner of last year's WCC tournament, was selected as preseason favorites. The Broncos, picked to finish eighth, play at BYU, April 5-7.
 
Santa Clara opens the 2018 campaign against Boston College on Friday, Feb. 16 with the first pitch at 6 p.m. PT.
