Baseball Begins Tough Road Stretch with Tuesday Game at Cal Poly
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball begins a seven-game road trip Tuesday when it travels south to face the Cal Poly Mustangs for a 6 p.m. first pitch. The road tests include games against the 2014 College World Series regional finalist Mustangs, 2013 super regional participant Kansas State and round out with the team picked to in the West Coast Conference in the 2015 WCC preseason poll — LMU.

Baseball Drops Doubleheader Contests to Split Series with Eastern Michigan
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball lost a 10-inning game 5-4 and a seven-inning game 11-7 Sunday at Schott Stadium to split a four-game series with the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Broncos combined to leave 23 runners on base in 17 doubleheader innings while the Eagles posted a four-run inning three times as part of their victories.

Broncos Score Four in Seventh, Stop Late Eagles Rally in 5-3 Win
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball broke open a 1-0 game with four runs in the seventh and held off a late rally to defeat Eastern Michigan 5-3 Saturday night at Schott Stadium. The Broncos have earned at least a split of the four-game series ahead of Sunday’s doubleheader.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Due to the threat of rain on Saturday, Santa Clara baseball has changed its schedule against Eastern Michigan for this weekend's homestand. The Broncos and Eagles are still slared for a four-game set, with first pitch times of 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, followed by a Sunday doubleheader. Baseball Wins Fourth in a Row 8-2 to Open Series with Eastern Michigan
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball extended its winning streak to four games Friday night with an 8-2 win over Eastern Michigan to open a four-game series at Schott Stadium. The Broncos drove in six runs in the first two innings and starting pitcher Jake Steffens left the game one out shy of matching a career-best 8.0 innings to earn his second win in as many starts.

Santa Clara baseball plays its second straight home series as it welcomes the Eastern Michigan Eagles to Schott Stadium for a four game set Friday-Sunday. Vizcaino, Jr. Earns Second Straight WCC Rawlings Player of Week Honor
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball junior shortstop Jose Vizcaino, Jr. has been named Rawlings West Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the second straight time, announced by the conference Monday. Vizcaino, Jr. garnered the season's first player of the week award last Monday for his efforts on the road against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Broncos Complete Sweep of Bearcats with Doubleheader Victories
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball won both games of a doubleheader to sweep its 2015 home-opening series against the Cincinnati Bearcats Saturday at Schott Stadium. The Broncos won a back-and-forth Game 1 10-8 and took the second game 8-4.

Steffens' Career Effort, Big Seventh Power Broncos Past Bearcats 11-3 in 2015 Home Opener
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball used a career-best effort from starting pitcher Jake Steffens and a big seventh inning to power past the Cincinnati Bearcats 11-3 Friday night in its home opener at Schott Stadium. Steffens struck out 11 batters over his seven innings and Santa Clara batted around in the seventh to break open a 3-2 ballgame.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara baseball plays its 2015 home-opening series this weekend after spending the first four games of the year on the road. The Broncos welcome the Cincinnati Bearcats to Schott Stadium for a Friday night contest at 6 p.m. followed by a Saturday doubleheader, with a first pitch time of 3 p.m. for Game 1 and Game 2 set to start 30 minutes after the first game’s final out.

DAVIS, Calif. — In a game that featured all five runs scored in the first three innings, the Santa Clara Broncos fell to the UC Davis Aggies 4-1 Tuesday at Dobbins Field. The Aggies tallied three runs in the first and one in the second while the Broncos responded with one in the third.

Broncos Play First Midweek Game at UC Davis Tuesday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Coming off a series in which the team took one of three games at defending national champion and preseason No. 1 Vanderbilt, Santa Clara baseball heads to UC Davis to face the Aggies for a 2 p.m. first pitch Tuesday. It is the first midweek game of the season before the Broncos play seven straight at Schott Stadium over the next two weekends.

Redshirt sophomore starting pitcher Steven Wilson and junior shortstop Jose Vizcaino, Jr. garnered the honors — announced by the WCC Monday — for their performances in Nashville.

Santa Clara baseball opened the 2015 season at defending national champion and unanimous preseason No. 1 Vanderbilt Feb. 13-14. Baseball Splits Doubleheader with No. 1 Vanderbilt Saturday
In a twin bill that lasted a combined seven hours and 53 minutes, the Santa Clara Broncos and No. 1 Vanderbilt Commodores split a pair of one-run games at Hawkins Field Saturday. Santa Clara scored two runs in the ninth to win Game 1 7-6 and Vanderbilt walked off against a five-man infield in the 10th inning for a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In its season opener against the No. 1 team in the country and defending national champion Vanderbilt, the Santa Clara Broncos fell 4-0 on opening night at Hawkins Field. The Broncos begin the year at 0-1 and the Commodores are 1-0. Santa Clara and Vanderbilt play a doubleheader Saturday, with first pitch of game one at 12 p.m. CST (10 a.m. PST) and first pitch of game two roughly 30 minutes after the end of game one.

Due to cold and potentially inclement weather in Sunday's forecast for Nashville, Santa Clara Broncos Baseball will play two nine-inning games in a doubleheader Sat., Feb. 14 beginning at 10 a.m. pacific against Vanderbilt. The teams will not play Sunday, as the high temperature is expected to be 30 degrees. Friday's first pitch is still set for 2 p.m. PST.

T.J. Braff Gears Up for Final Season
Senior first baseman and outfielder T.J. Braff (TB) took some time to speak with Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) about entering his final season on the baseball team. Last season, Braff took over first base in April after an injury to senior Mac Hess, and hit safely in 16 of 20 starts while recording 20 RBIs during that span alongside a spotless 1.000 fielding percentage at first base.

Baseball Announces 2015 Schedule, Faces Defending National Champion Vanderbilt Opening Weekend
On the heels of its first postseason appearance since 1997, Santa Clara Baseball begins the 2015 season by facing defending College World Series champion Vanderbilt on the road. The Broncos and Commodores open up the 2015 season Feb. 13-15 at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tenn. It marks the first meeting between the programs, which collectively boast more than 250 years of baseball history.

In May 2014, Jose Vizcaino Jr. and Stevie Berman dogpiled with Bronco baseball teammates on the infield dirt of Schott Stadium to celebrate qualifying for the West Coast Conference Baseball Championship. Less than three months later and more than 3,000 miles from the Mission campus, the two were on the field for another championship moment — this time wearing different colors. Baseball's Vizcaino Jr. and Newport Gulls Win Sixth NECBL Championship
After a spending his summer playing in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) for the Newport Gulls, Jose Vizcaino Jr. is coming back to Santa Clara with another victory under his belt. Vizcaino Jr. and the Gulls found themselves in the NECBL Championship series where the rising junior faced off against Bronco teammate and summer ball rival Stevie Berman who played for the Sanford Mainers. The Gulls took home the championship, going 2-0 in a best-of-three series.

Evan Brisentine is happy to be back in a place he's familiar with this summer, though it's not anywhere near home for the San Ramon, Calif. native. For the second summer in a row, Brisentine is playing for the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). The rising senior looks to improve his game this summer while enjoying the East Coast for one last summer with the Raging Tide.

All Summer Long: Reece Karalus
After a nearly record breaking season pitching for the Broncos, rising junior Reece Karalus has continued his success on the mound this summer playing for the Aldie Senators in Virginia. Karalus, whose 11 saves this past season were the second most in Bronco baseball history, has brought that same skill and effort to Virginia as he was voted to the Valley Baseball League (VBL) All Star game. Karalus has been able to focus on improving his game both from a physical standpoint with the Senators and also on the mental side of the game.

All Summer Long: Stevie Berman
Rising sophomore and Saratoga, Calif. native Stevie Berman had a banner freshman season that earned him a number of accolades and helped the Broncos advance to the WCC Championship tournament. Berman took his game back East this summer, playing in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) for the Sanford Mainers.

All Summer Long: Kyle Czaplak
After appearing on the diamond 40 times for the Broncos this past season, rising sophomore Kyle Czaplak and his coaches made the tough decision to stay on the Mission campus and spend the summer focusing on his rehabilitation. Due to a bulged disc and injuries to both of his hips, Czaplak has devoted his summer to working with the team's training staff to make sure he's prepared for next season. Though he originally planned to play summer ball in Maine, Kyle has been able to balance training, classes and working with the youth camps at Santa Clara.

With a solid freshman season under his belt, Luke Huerta has been taking advantage of this summer to better himself as a player in addition to experiencing a different lifestyle in Kansas. Playing for the Haysville Aviators in the Walter Johnson Baseball League, the middle infielder for the Broncos looks forward to a run at the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series with his team.

After making 22 starts for the Broncos as a freshman, Max Kuhns has spent his summer in Maine competing in the Futures Collegiate League as a member of the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide. Alongside fellow Bronco teammate Evan Brisentine, Kuhns has taken the summer to improve his performance on the field while enjoying his time in Maine with his host family.

Baseball's Braff, George Featured in Article with Southern Ohio Copperheads
If you look at the roster for the Southern Ohio Copperheads, you’ll notice players from all over the country. Ranging from South Carolina to right down the road in Athens, Ohio, the Copperheads have a wide range of players from all over America. None traveled further than Kevin George and TJ Braff, players for the Santa Clara University Broncos in Northern California. After multiple plane rides and an hour drive, which added up to seven hours of travel, the two Californians made it to Athens without a hitch.

While the All Summer Long series focuses on Broncos that are playing their summer baseball nationwide, we’re also keeping up with players who are staying on campus to recover from injuries to prepare for next season. One of the Broncos top pitchers, Jacob Steffens, has taken his game to Lima, Ohio, playing for the Lima Locos in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League (GLSCL). Ohio is new for Steffens, but that has not stopped the rising junior from carrying over his success with the Broncos to his summer ball team.

After a very productive season pitching relief for the Broncos this year, rising sophomore Jason Seever has been staying sharp in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League this summer playing for the Healdsburg Prune Packers. Along with his fellow Santa Clara teammates Tyler Meditz, Nick Gagliardi and Kyle Cortopassi, Seever has gotten to experience new competition as well as spend some quality time with his host family.

Right-handed pitcher and San Jose native Nick Medeiros has taken his game down south, playing for the Palm Springs Power in the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League (SCCBL). Medeiros is the only Bronco in the SCCBL this summer and is using this opportunity to focus on bettering himself for his junior season.

All Summer Long: Jose Vizcaino Jr.
Jose Vizcaino Jr. has taken his game to the East Coast, playing for the Newport Gulls in Newport, R.I. Vizcaino Jr. had a standout season for the Broncos in 2014 that earned him First Team All-West Coast Conference and College Sports Madness Second Team All-West Coast Conference. This is Vizcaino Jr.’s first time in Rhode Island and so far he is enjoying his time on the East Coast.
