SANTA CLARA, Calif.- Three members of the Santa Clara baseball team were honored by the West Coast conference for their play this season on Wednesday. The three recipients were led by senior RHP Cory Hall, who was named to the 2011 All-West Coast Conference First Team. In addition, Patrick Terry was named as an All-WCC honorable mention and Kyle DeMerritt was named to the 2011 WCC All-Freshman Team.
Hall (4-7; 3.26 ERA) had a break-out season for the Broncos. After being a bullpen pitcher during his first two seasons, Hall became the team's Friday night starter. Hall averaged seven innings per start, pitching 105 innings in 15 starts. Santa Clara's ace fanned 80 batters, including a season-high 11 against Brown on March 26. He posted two complete games, including a two-run nine-inning effort at Saint Mary's on Apr. 15. Hall continually left the Broncos with a chance to win, picking up no-decisions that the Broncos later won including a two-run no-decision at Pepperdine on May 6.
Terry had a strong senior season. He led the team in five offensive categories: average (.312), hits (58), doubles (10), RBI (30), total bases (77) and slugging percentage (.414). He also tied for a team-best three homers, including a two-run dinger in his final game at Stephen Schott Stadium. His three-game performance vs. San Diego won him Rawlings WCC Player of the Week honors (May 23-30).
A freshman stand-out, DeMerritt was named to the All-WCC All-Freshman team for his 2011 play. DeMerritt started in 48 games during his rookie campaign, playing three different positions in the infield: at third, second and first base. He hit .280 on the year and was third on the team with 27 RBIs. He scored a team-high 29 runs, hit eight doubles, stole three bases and posted an on-base percentage of .363. He had six multi-RBI games. His 27 RBI was more than former Bronco Freshmen All-Americans Matt Long and Tommy Medica, who both had 23 during their Bronco rookie seasons.
