SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Continuing to pitch well following a 2006 season which saw him post a 9-2 record and 3.54 earned-run average to earn Freshman All-America honors, Santa Clara southpaw Matt Wickswat was named the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 24-30.
Wickswat, of the Bethesda Big Train, tossed a complete game against the second-place Rockville Express on July 27. He scattered five hits and two walks in that game, allowing just one run en route to the victory. The Broncos' lefty also struck out three Express hitters in that game.
For the Big Train this summer, Wickswat has posted an unblemished mark of 3-0 with a 2.48 ERA. He has tossed a complete game and struck out 22 batters in 36.1 innings of work.
