SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Junior infielder Dustin Realini was named the West Coast Conference/Rawlings Player of the Week today, Commissioner Michael Gilleran announced. It is the first career award for Realini and the third for the Broncos this season.
Realini led Santa Clara to a 3-1 record last week and its first WCC series win of the season. The Cupertino, Calif. native hit .533 (8-for-15) over the four games, which included a pair of wins at Loyola Marymount. Realini paced the team in many offensive categories, including RBI (8), slugging percentage (.867), runs scored (6), and total bases (13).
In Saturday's 18-6 win over the Lions in Los Angeles, Realini went 4-for-6 at the plate with a pair of doubles. On Sunday, he hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season and drove in three of SCU's four runs.
Realini joins Michael Thompson and Kris Watts as the Broncos who have earned the conference award this season. Senior Kellan McConnell was also honored earlier in the season with the WCC Pitcher of the Week award.
Realini and the rest of the Broncos will travel to Saint Mary's this weekend for a three-game conference set in Moraga, Calif. Friday's game is set to begin at 3 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field.
