SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Buck Shaw Stadium is the place to be this week as the Santa Clara University baseball team hosts four key West Coast Conference games. The Broncos will take on Saint Mary's Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in a make-up game that was rained out in March before hosting Pepperdine in a three-game series over the weekend.
The Broncos are currently 10-10 in WCC play, just 1 1/2 games behind Coast Division leader Pepperdine. The Gaels sit just one game behind Santa Clara, giving meaning to all four contests at "The Shaw" this week.
The Bronco Athletic Marketing department has lined up two great promotions during the Pepperdine series for fans of all ages.
Friday night's series opener against Pepperdine will begin at 6 p.m. and will mark the first annual Country-Western Night at Buck Shaw. All fans can gain admittance to the game for only $2 when wearing any kind of country and western wear. It will be all country music between innings and a good excuse to bust out your old cowboy hat.
Sunday's series finale with the Waves will mark the second annual Cinco De Buck Shaw. In honor of Cinco De Mayo, Santa Clara and Bon Appetit will give the first 300 fans through the gate free burritos. A speed pitch and pop-a-shot machine will each be available for all fans to test their skills in some exciting games. Little Leaguers will gain admission for only $2 when wearing the jerseys and have an opportunity to participate in a postgame clinic with Bronco players. Also, all kids will be invited to run the Buck Shaw bases following the conclusion of the contest.
So dust off your mits, throw on your hat and shorts and head on out to "The Shaw" for exciting game atmosphere and even more exciting college baseball as the Broncos look to move to the top of the WCC Coast division standings.
