SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University baseball team will take on BYU and California to conclude its season-long eight-game homestand Monday and Tuesday at Buck Shaw Stadium.
The Broncos (3-3) will look to snap their two-game losing streak Monday afternoon against BYU (1-7). The Cougars enter the contest with a four-game losing streak, dropping two to UC Irvine and one each to UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Santa Clara is coming off a 2-1 series loss to UC Santa Barbara over the weekend in which the Broncos belted 26 hits, but only nine of which came in the final two games. The Broncos took game one by a score of 12-6, but fell to the Gauchos in the next two by scores of 12-2 and 6-1.
Tuesday night Santa Clara will welcome the California Golden Bears to Buck Shaw Stadium for the first night game of the season for the Broncos. Cal will enter The Shaw after a three-game set against Gonzaga in Berkeley, Calif. The Bears had a 2-4 record going in to the rubber match Sunday against Gonzaga.
For the Broncos, the games will conclude the eight-game homestand in which the Broncos played two Big West teams, one Pac-10 and one Mountain West team. Santa Clara will head out on the road for the first time in 2002 next weekend when they pay a visit to the UC Irvine Anteaters.
