SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University baseball had two of its own honored at the "Hot Stove Banquet" presented by the Santa Clara County Baseball Association Tuesday night at the San Jose Elks Club.

Current pitcher and outfielder Joe Diefenderfer received one of three Lloyd Christopher Awards presented annually by Santa Clara County Baseball to one player from each of its three local universities, Santa Clara, San Jose State and Stanford. Kevin Frandsen of San Jose State and Andy Topham of Stanford were the two other recipients of the prestigious award alongside Diefenderfer.

"It really didn't hit me how much of an honor this was until I got here and was sitting with the other recipients and to hear of who we are representing in this award," said Diefenderfer following the awards ceremony. "This is quite a thrill for me."

Former Santa Clara standout and current Tampa Bay Devil Ray outfielder Randy Winn was also honored by the SCCBA as their Player of the Year. Winn accumulated career highs last year with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, posting a .273 batting average with 25 doubles and 50 runs batted in.

The former two-sport athlete on the Mission Campus will return to Santa Clara this weekend for the Alumni Basketball Game in the Leavey Center Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
