SCU 1 of Just 2 WCC Schools to Receive NCAA Public Recognition Award Eight Straight Years; 4 Bronco Teams Honored This Year
Santa Clara University was joined by Gonzaga University as the only two school’s from the West Coast Conference to earn Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. The Public Recognition Award was given to 61 schools who placed at least one team on the list each of the past eight years. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent plus ties in each sport. In addition, this year four Bronco teams were honored for their APR's: women's tennis, women's outdoor track, women's rowing and women's water polo.

Oliver Named To CoSIDA Academic All-American All-District List
Fresh off finishing 17th at the NCAA West Region Outdoor Track Championships in the 10,000m May 23, Bronco senior Kevin Oliver has been named to the Capital One CoSIDA All-District Academic All-American list. Oliver's name will now be forwarded as a national nominee.

Ashley Armstrong of Women's Basketball Named Valedictorian, Kevin Oliver Also Honored
Showing yet again that Santa Clara student-athletes are just as much students as they are athletes, Ashley Armstrong of women’s basketball was named the Valedictorian of the class of 2013. Armstrong has already been accepted to Cambridge University to get her Masters of Philosophy beginning in the fall.

Trackster Oliver Feels The Bronco Love
After Santa Clara senior trackster Kevin Oliver finished 17th in the 10,000m Thursday night at the NCAA West Region Championship, he was quick to pay homage to his Bronco teammates back on the Mission Campus and the three who came to Austin to see him run: Haley Ney, Marcos Hinojosa and Adrian Hinojosa as well as his coaches, Bronco head coach Felipe Montoro and assistant coach Peter Cushman. It's easy to understand why.

Oliver Finishes 17th At NCAA West Region Track Championships
Santa Clara senior Kevin Oliver, just the second-ever to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Regional Championships, finished 17th with a time of 30:40.74 at the University of Texas late Thursday night. The top 12 advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. next week.

Oliver Qualifies For NCAA West Region 10K! Double-Major Carries 3.97 GPA As SCU's Second-Ever NCAA Track Qualifier
Proving to be a college student first with a 3.97 grade point average as a double major, Santa Clara senior trackster Kevin Oliver became just the second-ever NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary qualifier today. Oliver, who ran a personal best 29.47.08 in the 10,000m to qualify, will compete in the prelims of the NCAA West Region Championships in Austin, Texas May 23-25. The NCAA Championships are in Eugene, Ore., June 5-8.

Broncos Close Out Regular Season Track With Many Personal Bests, School Record
The Santa Clara University Track team wrapped up its regular season last weekend at the West Coast Invite at Willamette University. Senior Kevin Oliver continued his outstanding season with another personal best and another school record, covering 3.1 miles of the track in 14:27.81 seconds. The women head into the summer capping off one of its most successful track seasons in school history as the women added new marks to every event top 10 list from 800 meters through 10k.

Catching Up and Looking Back with Hayley Ney
This past weekend, Hayley Ney (HN) competed in the Brutus Hamilton track meet and ran the 1500-meter race in 4:37.39. Oliver Shatters 28-Year Old School Record at Mt. Sac Relays; Broncos Run Well at Woody Wilson Invite
Santa Clara senior Kevin Oliver, making his season debut in the 10,000 meter race, made yet another mark on the track school record list by taking down the longest standing mark on the books with an impressive performance, running 29:47.08, at Mt. Sac Relays. Mt. Sac, historically a fantastic venue for distance performances, set the stage for Oliver's performance, which knocked 61 seconds off former Bronco Rory O'Flahtery's 1985 record.

Bronco Student-Athletes Post 3.0+ GPA For The 18th Time In 19 Quarters
Led by 16 Bronco student-athletes who posted a 4.0 grade point average and four teams who achieved a 3.4 or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.037 grade point average (GPA) for the Winter 2013 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 18th time in 19 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.089.

Catching Up with Track's Audrey Hiatt
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Last weekend the Bronco track team traveled north to compete at the UC Davis Aggie Open. Sophomore Audrey Hiatt (AH) had great success in her first ever steeplechase event. Cross Country Teams Lead Bronco Student-Athletes To Another Fine Quarter In The Classroom
Led by 11 Bronco student-athletes who posted a 4.0 grade point average and two teams who achieved a 3.5 or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.060 grade point average (GPA) for the Fall 2012 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 17th time in 18 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.036.

Cross Country Prepares For Final Race Of the Season
The Bronco cross country teams are preparing to travel to the Northwest later this week to compete in the NCAA Cross Country West Regional. The University of Washington is proud to host the 2012 NCAA Cross Country West Regional Championships, Friday, Nov. 9 at the Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle. It is the first time ever Seattle has hosted the event.

Cross Country Competes At WCC Championships
Running in Portland for the first time, Santa Clara’s women finished sixth and the men seventh at the West Coast Conference Championships Saturday morning in Fernhill Park. Portland took back the men’s title after BYU snapped its streak of 32 straight last year by outscoring Portland 32 to 33. USF won its fourth straight women’s title.

24 Cross Country Members Honored on WCC All-Academic Team
Twenty-four Broncos have been honored for their academics by the West Coast Conference on Friday, the eve of the West Coast Conference Championship in Portland. Four Broncos were named to the 2012 First Team West Coast Conference Cross Country All-Academic team on Friday. In addition, 13 Bronco women and seven Bronco women made the All-Academic Honorable Mention list.

Bronco Cross Country Teams Prepared For WCC Championships Saturday
Santa Clara’s cross country teams are putting the finishing touches on its preparation for the West Coast Conference Championship, to be run at Fernhill Park in Portland on Sat., Oct. 27. Both teams are familiar with the course as they ran in the WCC Preview on Sept. 15 up in the City of Roses. Cross Country Runner Lauren Germany Continues To Make Personal Bests This Season
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Women’s cross country star Lauren Germany seeks to continue to improve this year. So far, Germany ran a personal best time of 18:24 in the 5K at the Bronco Invite on Oct. 13. In addition, she ran a PR in the 6K on Sept. 15 at the WCC Preview, clocking a 22:38.78. The teams are preparing for the WCC Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Portland, Oregon. Junior Cross Country Runner Enjoys Her Time Out On The Trails
Beginning to run competitively as a sophomore in high school, junior, Kayla Germany (KG), stumbled upon her latent talent accidentally. Picking up track as a method to keep her in shape for soccer season, Germany found that she enjoyed running more, so she decided to keep with it through the fall season and joined cross country. Bronco Invite Features Fun Run, Jog For Jill; Races Kick Off At 9 am At Baylands Park
Santa Clara’s cross country teams host the Bronco Invitational on Sat., Oct. 13 at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. The day kicks off with a fun run, Jog for Jill, at 8 a.m. The women’s 5K Open will start on the gun at 9 am. The women’s 5K Invitational will follow at 9:45 am. EYEBRONCO: Long Road Of Recovery Is A Success For Cross Country's Ezana Tesfu
About a year ago, Bronco cross country senior Ezana Tesfu was re-learning how to walk. His vision was poor and he didn’t even remember the two weeks he spent in the hospital after a serious head injury from a skateboarding accident on Oct. 16 when he was returning home from a night at the library. Running again was possible someday in the future, but unlikely during his time left as a Bronco.

Broncos Finish Strong at Stanford Invitational
The Santa Clara men were aiming for a top 10 finish at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday and that's exactly what it finished - 10th. The women finished 19th in the race won by Stanford on the men's side and on the women's side. Santa Clara continues to run in the Bay Area next weekend when it races at Crystal Springs on Oct. 6 in Belmont, Calif.

Broncos Run Split Squads This Weekend in San Francisco, Portland
With classes starting on Monday on the Mission campus, the Broncos will split squads this weekend in San Francisco and Portland and then take a couple weeks off to train even harder for the Stanford Invitational on Sat., Sept. 29. This weekend, the Broncos will run at San Francisco State in the Gator Invitational in Golden Gate Park on Fri., Sept. 14. They will also run at the WCC Preview Meet at Fernhill Park in Portland, Ore. on Sat., Sept. 15.

Bronco Cross Country Men 4th, Women 5th at Sac State Hornet Jamboree
The Bronco cross country teams continued their preseason competitions on Saturday at the Hornet Jamboree, hosted by Sac State. Sophomore Mary Kriege led the way for the women, running 17:58 for the 5k course, to finish eighth overall. Junior Luca Signore led the men for the first time in his career, running 20:15 for the 4-mile course.

Broncos Run Well In Opening Meet At USF
Opening its season in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, the Santa Clara men's and women's cross country teams were led by a freshman debut at the top spot on both sides at the USF Invitational. Both Bronco teams placed sixth in large fields of 21 teams for the women and 19 teams for the men. Cal won the women's race and Stanford won the men's competition.

Cross Teams Running Long For Season Opener; Demaree Named to WCC Preseason All-WCC List
With the Bronco men’s and women’s cross country teams set to open their season on Sept. 1 at USF, the Santa Clara team's opened the 2012 preseason camp with its first official practice Friday morning – but it isn’t the first miles any of them have run this summer. In addition, it was announced this week that junior Ben Demaree, who finished 13th at the West Coast Conference Championship last season – the top non-Portland-BYU runner – has been named to the WCC Preseason All-WCC team.

The Santa Clara University men's and women's cross country teams will welcome a deep and talented recruiting class this fall. The two teams combined to sign 12 incoming Bronco freshmen student-athletes for the Class of 2016.

Bronco Harrier Works to Design Bamboo Housing in Haiti
Chris Sampson’s senior project was not the typical research paper or in-depth project that is merely for the benefit of the student. As a civil engineering major who would graduate in June of 2012, Sampson’s senior design project was for the benefit of those in need. With many parts of the world in dire need of sustainable and cost-effective housing that will survive natural disasters, the Bronco cross country student-athlete came to the conclusion that his skills would be best utilized assisting others. Along with his partner Jake Echeverria, the two Santa Clarans developed a design for bamboo housing in Haiti.

Bronco Track Heads to Mt. Sac Relays and Woody Wilson Invite
The Santa Clara track team, which had last weekend off, will gear it up again full strength this weekend when it travels to the Mt. Sac Relays and the Woody Wilson Invite at UC Davis. Bronco Student-Athletes Record School Record 3.14 GPA For Spring 2011 Quarter
Recording the highest grade point average in Santa Clara history, Bronco student-athletes recorded a school record 3.14 gpa for the spring 2011 quarter. The previous high-water mark for the student-athletes one quarter gpa was 3.11 in the winter of 2009. In addition 92 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA this quarter. Santa Clara's student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 GPA or better 13 of the last 14 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative gpa for its student-athletes is 3.097.
