Transitioning from Track to Cross Country for Hartwig
Erin Hartwig, sophomore from Glendale, Calif. has already had success in her first complete season of track at Santa Clara University. She has raced in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m this season, earning seasonal and personal records with times of 2:27:12, 4:47:08 and 18:39:75, respectively. She also has been a key runner on the Bronco 4x400m relay. Recently, (SCU) was able to speak with Hartwig (EH) about her season, future and experiences.

Kazimir Brown (KB), also known as Amanda, grew up in a track family and was destined to be a runner. During her sophomore season here at Santa Clara, she broke two school records in the 100m and the 200m.

Conlin, a senior graduating this spring in engineering is from Renton, Washington. Recently, she raced a season best time in the 5000m at the Chico State Invitational in early April.

Reid Wins 1500m to Highlight Bronco Track Efforts at UC Davis
The Bronco track team participated in the Woody Wilson Invitational hosted by UC Davis on Sat., April 16. Temperatures in the mid 80's provided excellent conditions for the middle distance events, but made things difficult for those athletes competing in the longer events. The highlight of the meet for SCU was senior Robbie Reid's victory in the 1500m.

Reid Reflects on his Bronco Experiences
Robbie Reid, a senior from Los Altos, Calif. has been very involved here at Santa Clara University and now enters his last year on the Bronco’s track team. He has had an excellent start to the season placing third in the 800m at the Cal State Stanislaus meet as well as fifth overall at the UC Davis Aggies Open with a time of 1:54:02. Track Sets Personal Bests in Chico
The Santa Clara track team traveled north to compete in the Chico Distance Carnival and the Chico Twilight on April 8 and 9 at Chico State. In ideal conditions a slew of Broncos set personal best for the third consecutive week. The Bronco track team returns to competition April 16 for the Woody Wilson Invite hosted by UC Davis.

Bronco Student-Athletes Post 3.0+ GPA for 12th time in 13 quarters
With almost one-third of the student-athletes posting a 3.5 or better, Santa Clara University's student-athletes posted a 3.047 grade point average (GPA) for the Winter 2011 quarter. Santa Clara's student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 GPA or better 12 of the last 13 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.081. For the second straight quarter, the women's cross country team (right) led all teams with a 3.406 GPA for the Winter 2011 term – the exact same GPA it recorded for the Fall 2010 term as well.

Wilson Begins Her Last Bronco Track Season
Stephanie Wilson, a senior English major and local graduate of San Jose’s Archbishop Mitty, has begun her last track season as a Bronco this spring. Although she did not compete in the 2010 track season due to an injury, she had a record-setting year in cross-country as she was the 2009 NCAA All-American as well as 2009 WCC champion. (SCB) sat and talked with Wilson (SW) about her experience here at Santa Clara, some tips about running, and potential plans for the future.

Clear skies and warm weather greeted the SCU track team at SF State April 2. The Broncos continue to progress throughout the season improving each weekend and there were a number of personal and seasonal bests set on the day. The Broncos return to action April 8 and 9 when they make the trip north for the Chico State Distance Carnival and Twilight Invitational.

Track Runs at UC Davis This Weekend; Readies for Big Things This Season
The Santa Clara track season is beginning to feel like its in full swing. This weekend the Broncos will run at the UC Davis Open on Sat., March 12. Next weekend runners not still finishing finals, which are next week, will run at the Hornet Invite Sat., March 19. Finally, the full compliment of Bronco runners will take to the track to run either at the San Francisco Distance Carnival March 25 and 26 with a select number of runners who qualify running at the Stanford Invitational the same dates.

Broncos Find Early Season Success At Kim Duyst Invitational
Warm weather and good competition welcomed the Broncos to the Kim Duyst Invitational as Santa Clara's track team opened up the season with a successful trip to Cal State Stanislaus on Sat., March 5th. Next up for the track team is the Aggie Open, hosted by UC Davis on Sat., March 12.

WCC Collects Record-Breaking 11,740 Shoes for Soles4Souls
The Soles4Souls shoe drive has come to an end on the WCC campuses. This year Santa Clara University collected a total of 1,412 pairs of shoes, tripling the total collected last year.

SCU Lands Eight On WCC Fall All-Academic Teams; 11 More Earn Honorable Mention
The WCC Fall All-Academic teams were released today by the West Coast Conference and Santa Clara boasts 19 student-athletes on the list; eight divided amongst the teams and another 11 receiving honorable mention. Only one other school, Portland, placed more student-athletes on the conference’s all-academic lists than Santa Clara.

Montoro Named Head Cross Country and Track Coach
After an extensive search, Santa Clara University announced on Wednesday Bronco associate head coach Felipe Montoro, in his seventh year with the program, has been promoted to head coach of the cross country and track programs at Santa Clara University as nine-year head coach Tom Service is retiring as of Dec. 15, 2010.

Cross Country Men 21st, Women 22nd at NCAA West Regional Championship
The Bronco men’s cross country team finished 21st and the women 22nd at the NCAA West Regional Championship. After running to All-American honors last year, senior Stephanie Wilson finished 73rd and did not qualify for the NCAA Championship. Washington won the women’s title and Oregon bested Stanford’s men to win the men’s title.

Cross Country Prepares for NCAA West Regional Championship
With five natives in tow and a 2009 All-American as well, Santa Clara’s Cross Country teams head to Oregon this weekend to compete in the NCAA West Regional Championship on Sat., Nov. 13 at the Springfield Country Club near Eugene, Ore. The women’s race, a 6K, will begin at 9:45 am. The men’s race, a 10K, will start at 10:45 am. Each of the more than 30 teams on each side will be vying for a spot at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Mon., Nov. 22.

Santa Clara’s women were third at the Doc Adams Invitational on Saturday with 68 points at UC Davis. Meghan McNamara finished in fourth place for the Broncos. The Bronco cross country teams now turn their sites to the NCAA West Region Championship on Sat., Nov. 13 in Eugene, Ore.

Harrier Men Third, Women Fourth at WCC Championship
The Santa Clara men finished third at the 2010 WCC Cross Country Championships in Crystal Springs, Calif. and the women were fourth on Saturday. It was the men’s highest finish since they were third in 2007 as they finished one point ahead of LMU with 96 points. Individually, Santa Clara saw three runners race to All-WCC honors with last year’s champion, Bronco Stephanie Wilson, finishing seventh.

Cross Country Hosts Bronco Invite Saturday
Hosting a field of 31 teams from seven states, the Bronco Invitational Cross Country meet on Sat., Oct. 16 is the biggest and brightest field in school history. The Bronco Invite, which is free to the public, will be run at Baylands Park in Santa Clara, Calif. and will include five WCC schools, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, Lamar, Chico State and a number of other Big West and WAC schools. It is the 2010 debut of Bronco cross country All-American Stephanie Wilson, the defending WCC champion. Two-time defending champion Long Beach State will also make a run at its third straight title.

Cross Country Runs at Stanford Invite
The Santa Clara men's and women's cross country teams made the short drive on Saturday morning to compete in the Stanford Invitational. It is one of the largest cross country races in the nation with over 50 Universities and over 2400 High School students racing during the day. Late Sept. Stanford Inv, weather is traditionally toastie and the 2010 version didn't disappoint as temperatures soared into the 90's during some of the races. The men were 13th and the women were 15th.

Youth Served as Cross Country Competes at UCR Invite
The Santa Clara men's and women's cross country teams made the trip down I-5 to UC Riverside for the annual UCR Cross Country Invitational this weekend. Facing tough competition on both sides, the men finished in seventh place with 25 teams competing and the women were 13th out of 24. Future WCC member BYU dominated the men's race and national power Arkansas easily won the women's competition.

Chris Sampson a senior from Santa Ana, California, definitely loves to run. He’s been competing in cross country since his freshman year of high school, and now, eight years later, Sampson is one of Santa Clara’s cross-country captains. The men's and women's track teams competed at the SF State Distance Carnival and the Stanford Invitational Friday and Saturday. Both teams return to competition next Saturday at the San Francisco State Johnny Mathis Invitational.
