SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University's men's cross country runner Devlin Croal was selected as October's West Coast Conference Athlete of the Month by the conference office on Wednesday. Croal becomes the second Mission Harrier to win the award this year as junior Thomas Chapman won the award in September.
The sophomore from Bend, Oregon won the Mills Inviational on October 14 in a time of 29:32, helping the Broncos win the invitational as a team. He also helped the Broncos to a fourth place finish at the Big Cross Invitational with his 25th place finish on October 6. His time of 27:34 at the Big Cross Invite was the third fastest time recorded by a Bronco.
Thus far this season for the Broncos, Croal was the top finisher at the Mills Invite, the third fastest at the Aggie and Big Cross Invitationals, and the fourth fastest at the Sacramento and Bronco Invitationals. His best time of the year came at the Aggie Invite where he ran the 8K race in a time of 27:15.7.
Croal and the rest of the Mission Harriers will compete this weekend at the WCC Championships at the Crystal Springs Course in Belmont, Calif. The men's race is scheduled for a 9 a.m start, while the women's race is slated to begin at 9:45 a.m.
