Great conditions and a high level of competition combined with a season's worth of training helped Santa Clara produce excellent results this weekend at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Cal. The two day meet hosted by Cal featured collegiate athletes from all over the country and a slew of elite competitors and Olympians as well.

The Santa Clara men's 800m runners got the meet got started off on Friday evening with excellent performances. Junior Robbie Reid re-set his own school record by the smallest of margins, placing second in his heat with a time of 1:53.39, just one one hundreth faster than his previous best (1:53.40).

Freshman Guadalupe Gonzalez continued his outstanding freshman season re-setting his own freshman school record. Gonzalez ran 1:53.92 in only his third attempt at the distance.

Senior team captain John Laughlin had been struggling to find the form that he had last year, but not so this time. Laughlin took his heat out hard and held on for second in his heat and a huge seasonal best of 1:55.61.

Sophomore Richard Zhu set a personal best finishing 3rd in the same race, crossing the line in 1:56.09.
