Outdoor Track Team Does Double Duty This Friday

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- Once again the Broncos will be split into two teams tomorrow, with runners competing at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto and the Chabot Distance Carnival in Hayward.

At the Stanford Invitational, Santa Clara will be represented by senior Michael Delaurenti and junior Veronica Vazquez. Delaurenti is just coming off a win in the men's steeplechase at the Cal/Nevada Championships in Fresno last weekend. The rest of the team will travel to Hayward to compete in the Chabot Distance Carnival.

Last weekend the team was split into two teams as well, with half of the team competing at the San Francisco State Distance Carnvial. At San Francisco, junior Noelle Lopez took a close second place in the 2 mile race with a time of 11:11.93. Later on Lopez placed fifth in the women's 800M with a time of 2:24.82. As for the men, sophomore Andy Backus ran in his first 10,000M race ever and placed sixth with a time of 32.54. Junior Ben Snyder also did well for the Broncos with a fifth place finish in the 2 mile (9:41.83).

As previously mentioned, won the men's steeplechase in Fresno with a time of 9:22.32, his personal best for the year. Sophomore Alex Harkins was right behind Delaurenti, placing fifth overall with a career personal best time of 9:32.06. Senior Danielle Miller represented the Bronco women and took eighth placed in the steeplechase with an overall time of 11:18.39.
