SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara track team visits Davis, Calif. for the second time this season as they participate in the Woody Wilson Open. On the schedule for the Broncos are 19 events most of which will be under the lights at Davis' Woody Wilson Track.
According to head coach Tom Service, winning is contagious, and it is starting to spread. Last week, two more all-time records were set, both in the 5000 meters. Sophomore Veronica Vazquez set a new mark of 17:40.39 for the women, while Mike Delaurenti broke his own school record with a 14:46.17 performance on the men's side.
Stephen Koch and Danielle Miller will run their first steeplechases since their ninth place finishes at the Cal-Nevada Championships two weeks ago, and Ryan Ward will look to improve upon last weekend's second place finish in the long jump in which he leapt for 6.60 meters. Additionally, Delaurenti will run in a separate section of the men's 1500 meters which is an invitational featuring just twelve athletes.
On the women's side, everyone will return to their normal distances after the team tested themselves at some different distances at Johnny Mathis. Vazquez will be back to 1500 meters as she goes after her own school-record 4:42.68 set at the Cal-Nevada Championships, while Adriane Puetz and Annie Murphy-Hagan lead the way in the 5k.
