Bronco Track Opens Second Season
March 8, 2006
STANFORD, Calif. - With only one official track season under their belt, the Broncos finished strong in their first meet of year. On a stormy day in Palo Alto, Santa Clara battled it out against a wide range of competition, including both collegiate and club teams. Redshirt sophomore Shannon Bell was the highest placing Bronco at the meet. Her time of 10:27.12 granted her a fourth place finish in the 3,000-meter race. Freshman Anna Wheatley placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.28. On the men's side, sophomore Mike Delaurenti completed the 3,000-meter contest in 8:41.68. In addition to their sold performances, Bell, Wheatley and Delaurenti all broke Bronco records. The Broncos will return to the field next weekend for a split-squad day of racing. Several of the top distance runners will travel to Walnut, Calif. for some tough competition at the Benny Brown Invitational while the rest of the team will race in the Aggie Open at the University of California at Davis.
