REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's crew began its 2002-2003 season at the Blair Island Fall Regatta in Redwood Shores, Calif., Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos had their varsity eight and varstiy four teams racing in the regatta against three different teams from the University of California.

Santa Clara's varsity eight finished fourth in a time of 23:04 in the morning race, crossing the finish line behind the Cal varsity eight "A", the Cal varsity eight "B" and the Cal lightweight varsity eight. Cal's "A" team won the race in a time of 19:48.

The Broncos' varsity four also finished fourth in the afternoon race, crossing the finish line in a time of 28:48. The three finishers ahead of the Broncos were the same as those who finsihed ahead of the varsity eight. The Cal varsity four "A" team won with a time of 24:11.

Santa Clara will return to action on February 8th at the annual Indoor Testing held in Sacramento. The men's team will begin its season at the same meet.
