RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's crew had a good first day at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships Saturday at Lake Natoma near Sacramento, Calif.

The men's novice four won the first race of the day which was heat No. 1, claiming the race by over 12 seconds, and finishing in a time of 7:02.0. California was the next closest competitor, crossing the line in a time of 7:12.1.

In the grand finals for the novice four, the Broncos raced another tremendous race, crossing the line in a time of 7:26.4, good enough for first place. Stanford was the next closest finisher, crossing the line in a time of 7:36.1.

The men's novice lightweight four finished second in their heat, crossing the line in a time of 7:31.7, just four seconds behind UC Santa Barbara. The finish qualified the Broncos for a spot in the grand finals.

In the finals for the novice lightweight four, the Broncos finished third in a time of 8:24.8, crossing the line after UC Santa Barbara and UCLA, repsectively.

In the finals for the varisty lightweight four, the Broncos finished second in a time of 7:46.9. California won the race, crossing the finish line in a time of 7:36.7.

The men's novice lightweight eight won the three team final, crossing the line in a time of 7:14.5, just under two seconds ahead of UC Santa Barbara.

Day two of the PCRS's will begin Sunday morning and run through the early afternoon with the varsity eight grand finals culminating the event.
