SCU Men's Crew 2Varsity-8 Boat Takes First In Petite Finals

SACRAMENTO - The Santa Clara men's and women's rowing teams produced strong finishes at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championship regatta this weekend in Sacramento. The Women's Lightweight-8 boat placed third in the Grand Finals, while the Men's Second Varsity-8 boat took first place in the Petite Finals, while the women had two Varsity-8 boats take second place in the Division I/Open Petite Finals and the Second Varsity-8 Petite Finals. All together the Broncos had four boats make the Grand Finals and five boats advance to the Petite Finals. The women's Lightweight-8 took fourth place in the Grand Finals, just four seconds behind second place. The men had their Novice-4 boat and their Lightweight-4 boat take fourth place in their respective finals. Santa Clara crew returns to the water on May 8-9 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. Last year, the Bronco Men's Novice 4 took first place in the Lindy Cup with a time of 6:24.052.
