Nick Mirkovich was hired as Santa Clara University's associate director of media relations in September of 2009. His experience in the media relations field spans eight years, including two years as the men's basketball, baseball and soccer contact at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. (2007-09) and five years as the assistant director of media relations at the University of San Diego from 2001-06.
A 2000 graduate of Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., Mirkovich was hired by the National Football League's office in New York City as the media relations contact for the NFL Europe League's Amsterdam Admirals in 2001. His season-long appointment in the NFLE came after working with the NFL's New England Patriots in 1999 and the Arena Football League's Portland Forest Dragons in 1998.
Returning to the United States in 2001, Mirkovich oversaw three nationally ranked NCAA Division I programs during his tenure at San Diego, publicizing 11 teams that qualified for NCAA tournament play. He gained additional experience in the field with College Sports Television (CSTV) in Carlsbad, Calif., as a key contributor to all aspects of website development for CSTV's 22-contracted schools within the ACC, Big East and SEC conferences.
One of his media advisories, written for the purpose of a news conference, was chosen for publication in the third edition of the college textbook "Public Relations Writing Worktext." His writing has also been featured in San Diego Sports Magazine. He is a current member of the College Sports Information Directors of America and holds Returned Peace Corps Volunteer status, having completed a term of volunteer service in Taveuni Island, Fiji.
