Steve Schulz joined the athletic staff at Santa Clara University in September 1994 as a Strength and Conditioning consultant. He currently provides support to the men's basketball and men's soccer programs, while also offering technical support to facilities and recreation units. Along with his support to Bronco athletics, Schulz is a co-owner and operator of Flex-It, a sport-conditioning and consulting facility in Mountain View. He also currently serves as a strength and conditioning consultant for Saint Francis High School's football and basketball programs. Prior to his 11-year tenure at Santa Clara, Schulz worked as a strength and conditioning coach to a variety of sports teams at Menlo College, University of Nebraska and Stanford University, as well as providing support to several high school teams and the San Jose CyberRays. Schulz received a bachelor's degree in physical education from Doane College, in Crete, Neb. in 1977. During his collegiate experience, Schulz was the starting fullback all four years for the Tigers' varsity football squad. Following graduation, he participated in the NFL Free Agent Tryout for the Denver Broncos. In 1980, Schulz received a Masters in Education, with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Schulz continues competitive weightlifting, made evident by his five gold medals, five silver medals and two bronze medals from multiple National, American and Pan-American Weightlifting Championships. His most recent victory was a Gold medal at the 2005 National Weightlifting Championship, for the 94 kilo class. Individual awards include the National Strength and Conditioning Association's West Regional Finalist for National Strength Coach of the Year in 1982, National finalist for the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year in '92, and NSCA Region V Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year in '84 and '87. Schulz and his wife Debra have two children, Nicholas and Christopher.The family resides in Mountain View. |
