Steve O'Brien joined Santa Clara University's Department of Athletics & Recreation in February 2006 as the department's Academic Support Coordinator and he moved into his current role as Director of Development for the Bronco Bench Foundation in December 2006. O'Brien came to Santa Clara after spending three and half years in the legal profession as a transactional finance and real estate attorney.

O'Brien oversees the fundraising efforts for the Bronco Bench Foundation, which is the student-athlete scholarship fundraising group for Santa Clara Athletics. He will conduct the BBF's annual $1.8 million fund drive and be responsible for the solicitation of Santa Clara alumni, parents and former student-athletes in an effort to raise annual gifts.

As Academic Support Coordinator, O'Brien oversaw a comprehensive academic support program designed to enhance the academic portion of the student-athletes' undergraduate experience. O'Brien also served as the moderator of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, oversaw all student-athlete community outreach efforts, and administered the department's CHAMPS Life Skills Program.

A Santa Clara alumnus, O'Brien received a bachelor's degree in history and economics in 1998. As a student at Santa Clara, O'Brien was a member of the men's cross country team. After completing his undergraduate degree, O'Brien earned his Juris Doctorate from the Law School at the University of Southern California.

O'Brien has served on the Santa Clara University Alumni Association's Board of Directors since 2004 and presently serves on its Executive Committee.
