Jimmy Shoven ‘08 was hired in July of 2013 as the Assistant Athletic Director of Development for Santa Clara Athletics. Shoven comes over to the Bronco Athletic Department after spending two years working on the Mission campus as the Assistant Director of the Santa Clara Fund – Class Giving Officer.
“Jimmy impressed us with his knowledge of the fundamentals of development, his track record as a fund-raiser, his work ethic, and his unabashed passion for Santa Clara,” said Bronco Athletic Director Dan Coonan. “It is always great to bring a former Bronco back as an employee - particularly in a role like this. He has already hit the ground running. I don't see him stopping anytime soon!”
While working as the Assistant Director of the Santa Clara Fund, Shoven helped recruit, develop and manage highly engaged alumni to the 20th, 40th and 45th reunions committees. He raised $1,479,889 for 2012 SCU reunion, the highest in the annual giving program. Shoven developed engagement strategies to encourage annual donor transition to major gift donors and successfully leveraged strategies to grow Presidents Club and 5-year pledge contributions (70 Presidents Club donors and 46 5-year pledge donors in 2012 reunion campaign). He also worked to collaborate with campus community, including major and principal gift officers, on solicitation strategy for 73 prospect-managed alumni.
Prior to working as the Assistant Director of the Santa Clara Fund – Class Giving Officer, Shoven worked for three years as the Assistant Director of the Santa Clara Fund – Young Alumni and Student Giving. He led SCU 5th Year Reunion Campaign, increasing giving from 5% to over 24% in 36 months. He solicited leadership gifts and pledges from reunion committee members as well as managed incoming gifts from reunion class members with gifts ranging from $5 – $25,000. Shoven recruited, educated, and trained over 80 alumni volunteers about alumni giving and encouraged financial support as well as attendance at SCU Grand Reunion. He also created a culture of giving in Santa Clara Students and young alumni through the Senior Class Gift Campaign program, increased giving from 6% to 34.5% between 2009 and 2011 raising an annual average of $41,764.
For the past five years he has worked as a Volunteer Athletic Program Fundraiser. He has collaboratively generated and spearheaded a campaign strategy and timeline with athletic department for a five year, $1,000,000 operational endowment campaign for the Men’s Rowing Program (currently at $165,000).
Shoven, a 2008 graduate of Santa Clara with a degree in Economics, was the men’s rowing captain in 2008. He was awarded with the following honors during his time as a Bronco rower: 2008 Lou Lindsey Award, 2007 Most Improved Oarsman and 2006 Most Inspirational Oarsman and Most Improved Oarsman.
Shoven, an accomplished Ironman Triathlete, finished the Coeur d’Alene Ironman 2011 and 2012. He was the team captain for Relay for Life in 2013.
Born in Stanford, Calif., he is a 2004 Gunn High School graduate. He lives in Santa Clara, Calif.
