West Coast Conference to Honor Title IX Through Year-Long Campaign

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference announced today plans to launch its “WCC Thanks Title IX” campaign during the 2012-13 school year, which is dedicated to honoring the 40th Year Anniversary of Title IX by expressing the Conference’s appreciation of its implementation through stories shared by its very own student-athletes, coaches and administrators.

“Our goal is to inform students and fans about how Title IX has positively impacted the lives of women and men who represent our institutions,” said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich.  “We thought the best way to show our appreciation would be by letting those whohave experienced the benefits of Title IX explain how it has personally impacted their lives beyond their athletic careers.”

Beginning with the West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships this Saturday, October 27 in Fernhill Park (Portland, Ore.), the WCC will honor Title IX at each of its Women’s Championships by inviting guest speakers to educate students and fans about the impact of Title IX.  The WCC will also produce celebratory banners to showcase the tradition of strong women’s athletics around the Conference.

Following the Cross Country Championships, the West Coast Conference will also begin its “Nine In Nine” video series, which will feature personal stories of WCC student-athletes, coaches and/oradministrators from each of the WCC’s nine institutions over nine months.  The videos will be produced in collaboration with Four in the Fire Productions and NetWorks Sports Conulsting.  All videos and supporting content will behoused on and will also be available on the Conference’s Facebook page ( and Twitter page (@WCCsports) with the hashtag #WCCTitleIX.
