Santa Clara Broncos Relaunches Website; Features Include New Online Retail Store & Mobile App
Santa Clara University Athletics is proud to announce the launch of its redesigned official athletics website, www.SantaClaraBroncos.com (as of 12 pm Pacific on July 1, 2013). Santa Clara and PrestoSports, the provider for the past three years, have been working hard the last few months to design and launch the new website with plenty of new features (see below). The website will continue to provide Bronco fans with in-depth coverage while improving features and user-friendly site navigation.

Bronco Athletics Administration Hosts Senior Send-Off For Student-Athletes
With at least 50 of the more than 60 Santa Clara graduates in attendance, and a number of Bronco coaches and administrators as well, Santa Clara Athletic Director Dan Coonan hosted the annual Bronco Senior Send-Off on Thursday night in the Leavey Center. It gave everyone a chance to say goodbye and to thank the seniors for all their efforts athletically and academically.

SCU 1 of Just 2 WCC Schools to Receive NCAA Public Recognition Award Eight Straight Years; 4 Bronco Teams Honored This Year
Santa Clara University was joined by Gonzaga University as the only two school’s from the West Coast Conference to earn Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. The Public Recognition Award was given to 61 schools who placed at least one team on the list each of the past eight years. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent plus ties in each sport. In addition, this year four Bronco teams were honored for their APR's: women's tennis, women's outdoor track, women's rowing and women's water polo.

Bronco Hoopster Nate Kratch Looks Ahead to Next Season
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Nate Kratch (NK), a freshman from Watertown, Minn., redshirted in his first season on the men’s basketball team. Kratch has high hopes for next season after watching this season from the bench. He was able to learn a lot in his first season as a Bronco, even though he was not suiting up for games. SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) was able to sit down with Kratch to talk about his experience on the team thus far and look ahead to next season.

Hosted by Bronco Volleyball, Fifth Annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer on Mission Campus Sat., May 11 at 8:30 am
It is that time of year again to come out and walk for pancreatic cancer so come out and join the Bronco volleyball team and a number of other Bronco student-athletes, coaches and staff. The Fifth Annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer will take place on the Santa Clara University campus on Sat., May 11 at 8:30 am. It's a 5K walk that will start and end at the campus library, across from Benson.

Bronco Student-Athletes Post 3.0+ GPA For The 18th Time In 19 Quarters
Led by 16 Bronco student-athletes who posted a 4.0 grade point average and four teams who achieved a 3.4 or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.037 grade point average (GPA) for the Winter 2013 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 18th time in 19 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.089.

Baseball Hosts "Shave for Change" on April 19 vs. San Diego - UPDATED
For the second year in a row, Santa Clara baseball will host a "Shave for Change" event in support of Vs. Cancer Foundation and its "Base Bald" program. The even will take place on Fri., April 19 during and after the 6 p.m. game vs. San Diego.

Cross Country Teams Lead Bronco Student-Athletes To Another Fine Quarter In The Classroom
Led by 11 Bronco student-athletes who posted a 4.0 grade point average and two teams who achieved a 3.5 or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.060 grade point average (GPA) for the Fall 2012 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 17th time in 18 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.036.

EYEBRONCO reporter Lauren Matheson talked with a few of Santa Clara's award-winning Broncos to get an inside look on how they prepared for their respective seasons. She asked them three questions and got some really interesting feed-back! She spoke with All-Americans Erik Hurtado (men's soccer) and Julie Johnson (women's soccer). Larry Jackson, the WCC Goalkeeper of the Year also checked in. She also spoke to Megan Anders of the volleyball team who was named All-WCC First Team after leading her team to the school's 14th NCAA tournament. Finally, Lauren also caught up with Santa Clara's West Coast Conference Players of the Month Katie Le (women's tennis) and Kevin Foster (men's basketball).

USC Upstate Outlasts Eastern Washington
Torrey Craig scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and USC Upstate beat Utah Valley 75-50 Friday afternoon at the Leavey Center in the fifth game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.

Eastern Washington Wins First Game of the Year vs. USC Upstate
Venky Jois scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Eastern Washington won its first game of the season, holding on to beat USC Upstate 75-70 Wednesday night in the third game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic hosted by Santa Clara University.

EYEBRONCO: Santa Clara's Ezana Tesfu: Overcoming the Odds To Run Again
About a year ago, Bronco cross country senior Ezana Tesfu was re-learning how to walk. His vision was poor and he didn't even remember the two weeks he spent in the hospital after a serious head injury from a skateboarding accident on Oct. 16 when he was returning home from a night at the library. Running again was possible someday in the future, but unlikely during his time left as a Bronco.

EYEBRONCO: Behind-the-Scenes at Santa Clara's Basketball Photo Shoot
A new video from EyeBronco! The seniors of the Bronco men's basketball team shot a series of photos for their poster and the Bronco Sports magazine cover. Some behind-the-scenes footage of the photo shoot with the seniors of the Santa Clara Men's Basketball team include #42 Raymond Cowels III, #21 Kevin Foster, #4 Kyle Perricone, #15 Marc Trasolini and #31 Niyi Harrison. Teammates Denzel Johnson, John McArthur, Evan Roquemore and Yannick Atanga did some commentary during the photo shoot. The Bronco men's basketball poster due in mid October and were shot by Cynthia Ahr.

Local Greats come out to BBF Golf Tournament
More than 180 golfers took to the tees Sept. 14 at the 34th Annual San Jose Golf Classic in support of the Bronco Bench Foundation and Santa Clara University student-athletes. The event was held at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club, which offered plenty photo opportunities as alumni were greeted at holes by current Bronco student-athletes.

Bronco Basketball's Johnson Joins Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap; All-Star Line-up of Student-Athlete Side-Line Reporters Join the EYEBRONCO Network
Beginning the second season of The Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap (BWSW) as part of the EYEBRONCO Network, with Santa Clara senior water polo player John Nash and senior women's soccer player Lauren Matheson serving as co-shots, Bronco Athletics announced Wednesday that sophomore men's basketball Denzel Johnson will join the Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap this season as its newest co-host. The BWSW will premiere this season on Sept. 24. All EYEBRONCO videos can be found on the Bronco website, SantaClaraBroncos.com and also the department's YouTube Channel, SantaClaraBroncos.

Men's Water Polo Takes Two Games To Open Season
Opening the season at the Inland Empire Tournament, No. 14 Santa Clara men's water polo won both of its games during the first day of the tournament. The Broncos took down Chapman 14-12 and Whittier 12-9 to move their record to 2-0.

Julie Johnston is in Japan with the USA team for the U20World Cup. Johnston, a 2011 First Team All-American, is the captain of the U20 team as well. Johnston put together a fantastic video of the first few days with the USA team in Hiroshima before the USA faces of Ghana in the opening game on August. GO USA !

Summer vacation at Santa Clara for some means going home for a few days of vacation. For the rising sophomore on the Bronco men's basketball team, Yannick Atanga, it meant flying almost 8,350 miles one way to visit his family and friends in his hometown, Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Welcome Back Bronco Great Anna Cmaylo '08. A three-time All-American on the Bronco volleyball team, Anna is the career blocks leader for Santa Clara and was also named to the All-WCC First Team three years. Record Number of Bronco Student-Athletes Named to 11th Annual WCC Commissioner's List
Continuing to show its one of the leaders among West Coast schools in the classroom, a record number 124 Bronco student-athletes have been named to the 11th annual West Coast Conference Commissioner’s List this year, besting last year's mark of 122. Santa Clara had 23 on the Gold list, 35 on the Silver list and 58 on the Bronze list. Proving its making bigger strides in the classroom, Santa Clara had three more on the Gold list this year and 14 more on the Silver list.

Bronco Volleyball Players Climb Half Dome Two Days After Graduation!
Bronco volleyball players come to Santa Clara to play the sport they love, attend classes on the Mission campus and bond with their teammates on and off with the court on a daily basis. Sometimes the bonding goes to a whole another level. Graduating senior Tanya Schmidt and rising junior Megan Anders bonded as they climbed the 5,000 foot Half Dome in Yosemite National Park on the Monday after Santa Clara's graduation, June 18.

SCU Cross Country Teams Continue To Lead the Way Academically; Bronco Student Athletes Post 3.0 GPA For 16th time in 17 Quarters
Led by 16 Bronco student-athletes who posted a 4.0 grade point average and six teams who achieved a 3.5 or higher, Santa Clara University's student-athletes recorded a 3.116 grade point average (GPA) for the Spring 2012 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 16th time in 17 quarters. It is the second highest GPA for a quarter, only topped by the 3.14 GPA the Bronco student-athletes achieved during the Spring 2011 quarter. Santa Clara's cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.057.

Women's Water Polo, Women's Track and Women's Rowing Recipients of NCAA Public Recognition Awards For Academic Achievement
Continuing its hard work in the classroom, Santa Clara’s women’s rowing, women’s track and women’s water polo teams were all recognized by the NCAA on Thursday as recipients of the organization's Public Recognition Awards for academic achievement. The NCAA released the APR recognition by highlighting teams that demonstrated a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APR scores within their respective sports. Specifically, these three teams posted multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

Bronco Student-Athletes Record School Record 3.14 GPA For Spring 2011 Quarter
Recording the highest grade point average in Santa Clara history, Bronco student-athletes recorded a school record 3.14 gpa for the spring 2011 quarter. The previous high-water mark for the student-athletes one quarter gpa was 3.11 in the winter of 2009. In addition 92 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA this quarter. Santa Clara's student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 GPA or better 13 of the last 14 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative gpa for its student-athletes is 3.097.
