VIDEO: With A Surprise Visit, Senior Bronco Student-Athletes Thank Santa Clara Coaches, Staff and Administration
A smile and a thank you goes a long way! In a surprise visit on Wednesday morning, eight Bronco student-athletes came to Santa Clara's monthly athletic department to do just that - thank the entire department for everything they did to help them throughout their careers on and off the fields and courts as they prepared to take final exams.

Former Bronco Great Marlon Garnett '97 visited with Santa Clara men's basketball head coach Kerry Keating and the two took in a tour of the Mission Campus on Monday and loved what he saw! Check out the video to see what the 1997 WCC Player of the Year had to say about the new-look Mission Campus, playing with Steve Nash '96 and his favorite memories as a Bronco. At the end he also has a special message for the Bronco men's basketball team.

SAAC Hands Out 2012 Senior Student-Athlete Awards
The Student Athelete Advisory Committee, known as SAAC, handed out the Santa Clara Senior Student-Athlete Awards last week. Women's Basketball's Alyssa Shoji and men's tennis' Kyle Dandan were named the top student-athletes, while Austin Jones and Tanya Schmidt were recognized for the top individual cumulative grade point average.

Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer Raises Almost $30,000!
Helping raise almost $30,000 for cancer research (as of May 22), the Santa Clara volleyball team hosted the fourth annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer on the Mission Campus on May 12. The Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer has raised more than $83,000 since its start in 2009 with all proceeds being donated to the UCSF Foundation.

Alexis Rubattino Travels to Dominican Republic For Live-Changing Trip With Kids Alive International
Bronco women’s soccer player Alexis Rubattino (AR) spent her 2012 spring break far away from the familiarity of the Mission Campus, traveling to the Dominican Republic to help underprivileged and orphaned kids. The junior Bronco goalkeeper thoroughly enjoyed her first trip outside of her home country, forming many close bonds with the locals while gaining a deeper understanding of her life goals. Fresh off the trip and a successful spring soccer season, Rubattino caught up with (SCB) about her experience in the Dominican Republic and her efforts to gain the coveted title of starting goalkeeper for the Bronco women's soccer team.

Bronco Volleyball Student-Athletes Compete in Iron Bronco
Each year during spring quarter, students hit the gym, the pavement, and the pool, more than ever to participate in the annual Iron Bronco. This event is a spinoff of the well-known Iron Man, a triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mi swim, 112 mi bike ride, and 26.2 mi run. Santa Clara students, as well as staff, are able to compete on their own or in groups of 3 over the two weeks. This year, a number of Bronco volleyball players decided to test out the race and compete together. SCB: was able to catch up with one of the team members, Kayla Lommori (KL), to discuss her training and why she chose to compete.

Bronco Men's Tennis Receives NCAA Tournament Bid
Bronco Men's Tennis Receives NCAA Tournament Bid, the school's first ever for men's tennis! Led by Derek Mills, the Broncos were on a little on pins and needles waiting this afternoon and were overjoyed to hear their name called. They will play Texas on Sat., May 12 at 9 am at Stanford University.

Trade Your Bronco Colors for Green As We Celebrate Earth Day In Many Ways!
Santa Clara University Athletics and Recreation are gearing up for the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day, Sun., April 22 with a number of active participants, including the Malley Center on the SCU campus. Just in time, the Malley Center's weight room is becoming a lot greener. In addition to Bronco volleyball player Megan Anders working as the SCU Sustainability intern (see article here), Bronco cross country runner Ezana Tesfu is the president of the SCU GREEN Club. With the hard work of Tesfu, the GREEN Club (which stands for Grass Roots Environmental Efforts Now) is hosting an Earth Day Festival on Fri., April 20 from 11 am – 2 pm on the Santa Clara Mall (between Benson and Kenna lawns) on the SCU campus. It's free and everyone is invited!

Santa Clara Women's Tennis, Men's Cross Country Lead Athletic Department with 3.5+ GPAs in Winter 2012
Santa Clara University’s student-athletes recorded a 3.107 grade point average (GPA) for the Winter 2012 quarter, topping 3.0 or better for the 15th time in 16 quarters. In addition 105 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher this quarter - 35 more than last quarter - and 81 Bronco student-athletes have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA. Santa Clara’s cumulative GPA for its student-athletes is 3.048.

2012 BBF Endowment Dinner Huge Success
The 2012 Endowment Dinner returned to the Santa Clara University Campus on March 10, 2012 to the delight of benefactors, guests and students. The night began with a new tradition, Mass at the Mission. Following Mass students and guests walked to Benson Memorial Center for the evening’s reception, dinner and program.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced Thursday that the University of the Pacific has formally accepted an invitation to join the WCC on July 1, 2013, for the 2013-14 academic year. Pacific was one of five founding members of the WCC (then the California Basketball Association) in 1952-53 and remained in the Conference until 1971.

Santa Clara is once again proving to be a place where those with the surname Nash can grow by leaps and bounds. Making the most of a great opportunity seems to be John Nash's middle name, even though he is no relation to the former Bronco All-American and two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash '96.

Volleyball's Anders Making Sustainability Contributions Felt
Bronco volleyball’s rising junior Megan Anders discovered a way to combine her love for sports and sustainability when she landed the position of Sustainability Intern, Athletics and Recreation on the Mission Campus. Being involved as a student-athlete always appealed to her, and when the opportunity to apply for an internship position in the Sustainability Office popped up on BroncoLink, she couldn’t pass.

NCAA Announces Santa Clara University Athletics Fully Certified
The Santa Clara Athletic program has been fully certified, the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Committee on Athletics Certification announced today, March 1, 2012. The certified designation denotes that Santa Clara University operates its athletics program in full compliance with the operating principles adopted by the Division I membership.

Santa Clara's Evan Roquemore Talks About Being WCC Player of the Year
After being selected to the 76 Classic Five-Man All-Tournament team and leading the West Coast Conference in points and assists per game and free throw percentage, Santa Clara guard Evan Roquemore has been named the WCC Player of the Week. He also shot 95.7 percent from the free throw line at the Classic, hitting 22 of 23. It is a first-time honor for the sophomore from Henderson, Nev.

The Bronco Bench Foundation hosted its 33rd Annual Bronco Bench Golf Classic on September 8th at the scenic Cinnabar Hills Golf Club. The largest group ever for a Bronco Bench tournament, at over 200 players, enjoyed a fun day raising scholarships for Santa Clara University Athletics.

Update: Men's Basketball Announces Hotel Arrangements for Fans/Family For Vancouver Foreign Tour
While the men’s basketball team announced June 7 it will travel to Vancouver, British Columbia Sept. 5-10, 2011 on a foreign tour where it will play four games vs. Canadian universities, Thursday it announced hotel plans for the trip for fans. The team will play games on Sept. 6, 8, 9 and 10, 2011.

The 33rd Annual Bronco Bench Golf Classic at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club on Thurs., Sept. 8, 2011 : Celebrating 50 Years of Supporting Santa Clara Athletics!
Santa Clara student-athletes are living the dream. A dream brought to life by the original board of the Bronco Bench Foundation: Pat Malley, Leo Ruth, Ed Panelli, Jack Going, John McHenry, John Cottrell, Ed Bevilacqua, Sal Sanfilippo and Joseph Henderson. These men along with the charter members Victor Bruni, MG Del Mutolo, S. Campisi, Victor Corsiglia Sr, Edward Fellows, George Figone, John Felice, Michael Guerra, Victor LoBue, Sam Della Maggiore, Peter Mancuso, Louis Pasquinelli, Frank Pisano, Aaron Richards, Phil Sanflippo and Bernard Vogel JR, created the foundation for Santa Clara Athletics as we know it today. All of you who support the Bronco Bench continue that legacy. During the next 18 months we will be celebrating the history of the Bronco Bench and Santa Clara Athletics. Santa Clara put 12 Spring Sports student-athletes on the West Coast Conference’s 2011 Spring All-Academic Team, including six on the first team.

SCU Places Record Number on 10th annual WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll
With the conclusion of the 2010-11 academic year, the West Coast Conference is proud to announce the 10th annual WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes those student-athletes that possess at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. A record number 122 Bronco student-athletes made the list, besting last year's mark of 118. Santa Clara had 21 on the Gold list, 21 on the Silver list and 80 on the Bronze list. Santa Clara's student-athletes recorded a school-best 3.14 GPA during the Spring 2011 quarter as well.

Bronco Student-Athletes Record School Record 3.14 GPA For Spring 2011 Quarter
Recording the highest grade point average in Santa Clara history, Bronco student-athletes recorded a school record 3.14 gpa for the spring 2011 quarter. The previous high-water mark for the student-athletes one quarter gpa was 3.11 in the winter of 2009. In addition 92 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 GPA this quarter. Santa Clara's student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 GPA or better 13 of the last 14 quarters. Santa Clara's cumulative gpa for its student-athletes is 3.097.

Cross Country Has Two Runners Honored Nationally; Wilson Third Straight Runner to Win Santa Clara's St. Clare Medal
Santa Clara University’s cross-country track and team continues to be known as one of the highest academically-performing athletic programs with two recently honored nationally. On Thursday, senior Stephanie Wilson was named Capital One All-American First-Team All-District. Wilson is also receiving the Saint Clare Medal at Santa Clara’s graduation on June 11, which is given "to the female graduate judged outstanding in academic performance, personal character, school activities, and constructive contribution to the University by the faculty and the provost."
