Aug. 3, 2009
I would like to first congratulate you on selecting Santa Clara as your college of choice. Now a little bit about me: My name is Denise Zafra and I am the President of the SCU Ruff Riders for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year. I joined the Ruff Riders during Welcome Weekend of my freshman year in 2006. I am an avid sports fan, and this club provided an awesome opportunity to be able to watch ALL of our home athletic events for FREE.
If you enjoy watching sporting events, whether it's only basketball or a couple of other sports or you have the "all sports" fervor, I invite you to join the Ruff Riders starting this year. As the Official Student Booster Club of Santa Clara Athletics, we provide the support on the sidelines that our NCAA Division I athletes feed off of at their home venue. With membership totaling over 3700 students in the past year, the Leavey Center has become an arena known for its loud and spirited fans all there to support their Broncos to victory. We hope to continue to build on this tradition an increase school spirit even more for years to come. The Ruff Riders are a great way to meet new people and something to be able to do with all of your friends.
To show our pride, we provide our members with a different color shirt every year with unique designs to create a united front among the student section at the games. This year's design was developed by a collaboration of yours truly and the Ruff Riders' preceding president, Kit Coyle. The design on the back features a silhouette of a cowboy riding a bucking bronco and the words "BORN TO BE BRONCO"; together, they encompass the thrill, excitement and pride that the Ruff Riders represent with our presence at athletic events. The front features the classic Ruff Riders logo, a tradition carried on throughout the years.
This year, we plan on special themes and events throughout the year and for each sport. In the past, these events have included Bronco Busses up to USF for men's basketball games, giveaway nights for Men's and Women's Soccer and Basketball, as well as Volleyball.
So how do you join? For incoming freshmen, you can join on Day 2 of your Orientation. For others, also including freshmen, you can sign up during Welcome Weekend (We will have booths at the Get Organized! Fair on Saturday, September 19 and at the Club fair on Sunday, September 20), online, or we will be tabling during the first few weeks of the fall quarter. We take cash, Visa, MasterCard, check, and flex (starting only during welcome weekend). For one flat fee, all the regular-season home games remaining during your undergraduate career will be free.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to seeing you in the stands this year in support of our Broncos.
