Santa Clara's student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 gpa seven of the last eight quarters; and its 3.152 term gpa is higher than the Santa Clara University undergraduate average term gpa of 3.121 for the Spring 2009 quarter.

Topping last quarter by one team, 13 Bronco programs posted a 3.0 or better for the term, with eight teams posting a 3.2 gpa or better for the Spring 2009 quarter. In addition, 13 teams have a 3.0 or better for their cumulative gpa.
Those 13 teams who posted a 3.0 or better for the Spring quarter include: Men's Basketball, Crew, Track/Cross Country, Water Polo; and Women's Basketball, Crew, Golf, Track/Cross Country, Softball, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball and Water Polo.
"So many of our student-athletes at Santa Clara continue to amaze us with their academic feats! For two straight quarters now, the Bronco student-athletes have continued to rise to the challenge and set new highs in the classroom," said Santa Clara athletic director Dan Coonan. "It is remarkable that softball led the department for the first time with almost a 3.5 gpa (3.487) and that they achieved it during their season! I also think it is noteworthy that men's basketball is now above a 3.0 - a goal that Kerry Keating and his staff have worked hard with that team to attain and they have been gradually building towards each quarter. I congratulate all of our athletes for continuing to challenge themselves in the classroom as they do."
On the women's side, softball posted the highest gpa at 3.487 for the Spring quarter. Women's tennis has the highest cumulative gpa at 3.325.
"I am really proud of our softball team and how hard they work in the classroom. I am excited to see them get the much-deserved recognition they deserve," said SCU softball coach Lisa Mize. "This team is a really academically driven group of young ladies that take a lot of pride in their success in the classroom and are great role models for future Bronco softball players!"
On the men's side, track/cross country posted the highest gpa at 3.218 for the Spring quarter; and they also posted the highest cumulative gpa at 3.175.
"The student athletes who represent the Cross Country / Track program at Santa Clara have worked extremely hard to achieve these outstanding marks. Assistant Coach Felipe Montoro has been very involved in these efforts. These young men excell on the track, are leaders in the classroom and still find time to be very involved in community service and student government activities. We are extremely proud of their efforts," said head cross country coach Tom Service.
