March 3, 2010
For the first time in club history, the Santa Clara University Women's Lacrosse team (club) is ranked No. 1 in the US Lacrosse WDIA national poll. The current poll: http://www.laxpower.com/update10/binwom/poll05.php
The women will put their No. 1 ranking on the road this weekend when they play at No. 2 UC Santa Barbara at 2 pm on Sat., March 6.
The Bronco women have started the season with a 9-0 record and recently beat UCLA, then-No. 5, 18-5. Here is their website http://www.scuwlax.org/.
UCSB is 8-0 on the season and this is a very rare mid-season No. 1 v No. 2 matchup of undefeated teams. The Broncos have never beaten the Gauchos and have not faced them since last year's Western Women's Lacrosse League championship game in which they lost 12-10.
Santa Clara received six first place votes compared to No. 2 UC Santa Barbara's four votes (http://www.laxpower.com/update10/binwom/poll05.php). In the past two weeks, the Broncos have defeated teams that were ranked No. 5, 8, 11 and 19 nationally.
Santa Clara played No. 5 Cal Poly last Saturday and defeated them 15-11 as well as defeating No. 19 USC 20-4 on Sunday.
