Santa Clara, Calif. - Santa Clara University will be sending two representatives to next weekend's National Collegiate Boxing Association Nationals, to be held in Reno, Nev. Kohei Omori will be making his debut at Nationals, while this will be the second time for Arturo Alvarez. Competition begins on Thursday, April 6 and runs until Sunday, April 9th.
Alvarez qualified for Nationals after finishing third in the 125-pound class at the NCBA Western Regionals. The sophomore will be a dark-horse in the tournament, but should surprise the fighters who have not seen him before. Technically an outstanding boxer, Alvarez has now adding strength and power to his repertoire.
Omori earned an at-large berth into Nationals after placing third in the 112-pound class at the NCBA Western Regionals. The junior's unorthodox style, fast pace, and lightening quickness, combined with his toughness, have made him a crowd favorite.
