SANTA CLARA, Calif. - On Friday, October 22 Santa Clara University Athletics will conduct the first annual Bronco Bash, a preseason sports-related entertainment event for the campus community that will preview the upcoming basketball season.
The Bash, scheduled to start after the women's soccer match against Gonzaga and volleyball match against Loyola Marymount are concluded, will be held in the Leavey Center. The event will be held to help instill Bronco Spirit and prepare students for SCU soccer and volleyball games on CSTV on Sunday. The evening will also serve as the official tipoff to the basketball season, as both teams will be introduced to the crowd.
Groups from throughout the campus including the Ruff Riders, The Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the Activities Programming Board, KSCU and others will participate.
The evening will include contests, prizes, skits and a re-introduction of a number of SCU traditions. The baseball, softball, men's tennis and women's water polo teams will compete in a skit competition. There will be an University Chicken eating contest with the winner of this contest taking on a San Jose State representative during the annual rivalry series game men's basketball game. Local businesses have donated prizes to be given away throughout the night.
To culminate the evening, both Bronco basketball teams will be introduced followed by a three-point contest between the two teams and by a "challenger team" from the audience and a dunk contest.
Students, faculty and staff, and the community are invited to participate. Anyone and everyone is invited to come join in on the fun. Come cheer on the Broncos Friday night as both the soccer and volleyball teams play at 7 p.m. and then head into the Leavey Center for this free event.
