SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Dozens of Bronco student-athletes capped off their collegiate experiences with the 154th graduation commencement June 11 at Buck Shaw Stadium on the mission campus of Santa Clara University.

Of the 62 new alumnae, 32 received diplomas from the College of Arts and Sciences, with the majority majoring in Communication, while 24 graduated from the Leavey School of Business, including Ben Hidalgo, who received an MBA at a separate ceremony the previous night in the Leavey Center. The School of Engineering also produced six student-athlete graduates.

All 17 varsity sports graduated at least one athlete.

Delivering the commencement address this year was Tim Russert, the managing editor and moderator of NBC's Meet the Press. Russert pressed for the class of 2005 to aid those less fortunate, and in recounting anecdotes from his own Jesuit undergraduate education and experience on Meet the Press, articulated the importance of values evident in a Jesuit education like Santa Clara University's. Russert also accepted an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from the University.

This year marks the school's second-highest graduation percentage of Bronco student-athletes in the last decade, according to the most recent graduation rate report produced by the NCAA. Santa Clara University also boasts the highest student-athlete graduation rate in the West Coast Conference, as well as the second-highest among all Division I schools in the state of California.
