League Announces Basketball Television Schedule
Oct. 17, 2002
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Commissioner Michael Gilleran announced today the 2003 West Coast Conference national and regional basketball television package. In conjunction with ESPN, Fox Sports Net, and syndicated networks, the league TV package contains a total of 14 men's and women's basketball broadcasts during the regular season.
This year's schedule includes 11 contests televised on Fox Sports Networks, as games will appear on a combination of FSN Northwest, FSN Bay Area, FSN West and FSN West2. While WCC telecasts must be cleared in the markets of the two competing teams, this season three men's games are cleared on all three west coast Fox Sports Networks. In addition to the Fox broadcasts, ESPN will televise two regular season games in 2003, including a marquee match-up between Gonzaga and Pepperdine on February 5 during ESPN's "Rivalry Week".
For the first time in league history, all eight women's teams are included on the WCC regular season television schedule. Highlighting the women's telecasts is the meeting between 2002 NCAA tournament participants, Pepperdine and Santa Clara. These teams met in last year's WCC tournament final, where the Waves edged the Broncos 81-77. Pepperdine was picked to finish first in the league's preseason poll, with Santa Clara tabbed to finish tied for second with San Francisco.
The WCC's 2003 regular season telecasts tip-off on Sunday, January 12 and culminate with Gonzaga versus San Diego at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, site of this year's WCC Basketball Tournament held March 6-10.
