GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Lynda Tealer, a former Santa Clara University athletics staff member, was named the University of Florida's Associate Athletics Director, Senior Woman Administrator, UF Athletics Director Jeremy Foley announced today.
Tealer, 33, will replace UF's current Associate Athletics Director, Senior Woman Administrator Ann Marie Rogers following her retirement. Tealer joins the University Athletic Association (UAA) in July and will work alongside Rogers until Rogers' retirement in December of 2003.
Tealer brings experiences as an administrator at both the conference and university levels as well as a student-athlete to the Florida program.
"We are very excited to have Lynda Tealer join the UAA. She is unquestionably one of the nation's top young talents, which is evident by her longtime presence on the NCAA Management Council. Lynda has earned a tremendous amount of respect among her peers around the country and her experience as a student-athlete, SWA and associate commissioner is invaluable. She is a good fit for our program and will work well with our coaches and staff," Foley said. "We look forward to welcoming Lynda and her family to the Gator program and the Gainesville community.
Tealer comes to the UAA from the Southland Conference, where she has been an Associate Commissioner since April of 2000. At the Southland Conference, Tealer served as its senior woman administrator and oversaw the league's regular season and championship competitions. She also assisted with administrative operations in addition to serving as a liaison for the coaches, championships, and senior woman administrators committees.
Prior to joining the Southland Conference, Tealer was at Santa Clara University for four years. She joined the Broncos' staff in November of 1995 as the compliance director and was elevated to SCU's Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services and senior woman administrator five months later. In July of 1999, Tealer was appointed Assistant Athletic Director for Intercollegiate Sports in addition to her senior woman administrator position. In her last position at SCU, Tealer provided program direction for the sports of men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, and men's and women's cross country. In addition, she represented Santa Clara on the West Coast Conference senior woman administrators committee.
While at SCU, Tealer was named to the NCAA Division I Management Council in 1998 as the Division I-AAA at-large representative. She assumed the West Coast Conference representative position (Oct. 1999-Jan. '00) and rejoined the Council as the Southland Conference representative in January of 2001. She also is a member of the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee, a position she has held since September of 2002.
Tealer is a 1992 graduate of the University of San Diego, where she earned a degree in business administration while playing basketball four years for the Toreros. She also possesses a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, where she was a member of the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society.
Tealer and her husband, Cedric, have a son, Dallas (3) who is quickly learning the Gator chomp.
