SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A number of well-known National Football League (NFL) and National Basketball Association (NBA) players will be participating in the Celebrity Basketball Showdown Classic, scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in the Leavey Center on the Santa Clara University campus, event organizer One Five Productions announced recently.
Oakland Raiders Jerry Porter, Ronald Curry, Eric Barton, Marcus Knight and others will battle Golden State Warrior stars Chris Mills, Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and others in a game that benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Silicon Valley. Tickets are available at the door and are priced at $25 for general admission and $20 for Santa Clara University students with a valid ACCESS card.
"It is going to be a great matchup," said Porter, a 6-2, 220-pound wide receiver for the Raiders. "The NBA guys probably don't think we can play. They are in for a fun surprise."
"We are thrilled that members from both the NFL and NBA are giving us their time to help build awareness and raise funds for our organizaion," said Steven Tedeso, president of the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley.
On Friday night, May 16 the players will be involved with a Celebrity Dinner and Silent Auction at Eulipia Restaurant in San Jose. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature signed NBA and NFL sports memorabilia.
