Broncos Lead Inaugural WCC Commissioner's Cup Standings

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - With three fall sports championships and two runner-up finishes to its credit this season, Santa Clara University leads the standings in the inaugural WCC Commissioner's Cup, the league office announced today.

The Commissioner's Cup is an all-sports award presented at the end of each academic year to the leagueıs top performing school in conference play. A Men's and Women's All-Sports Award, recognizing athletic achievement within each gender, will also be presented.

The recipient of the Commissioner's Cup is based on a point system reflecting the place finish of each team in conference play. The Men's and Womenıs All-Sports Awards are given to the schools that accumulate the most points within each particular gender. The institution with the highest point total after combining the menıs and womenıs point totals will be honored with the Commissionerıs Cup.

Santa Clara leads the standings after the Fall season, taking home conference championships in men's soccer, women's soccer and women's cross country and finishing second in men's cross country and volleyball. Portland currently holds second place in the overall standings with three second place finishes and a first place result in men's cross country.

As a league, the WCCıs Fall season was highlighted with 10 of the conference's 15 menıs and womenıs soccer teams earning postseason bids, three womenıs volleyball teams advancing to the NCAAıs and Portlandıs menıs cross country team earning its highest ever finish in the NCAA Championships with a 6th place result. Portland and Santa Claraıs womenıs soccer teams are currently headed to the NCAA College Cup, while Pepperdine will play its third round matchup in the NCAA womenıs volleyball tourney this Friday.
