Santa Clara Scholar-Athlete of the Week (October 8-14)

Aly Wagner & Benjamin Gauen were named Santa Clara's Scholar-Athletes of the Week.

Aly Wagner

Aly Wagner is the definition of student-athlete. The junior from San Jose, Calif. carries a 3.60 grade point average in combined sciences and currently lead the Santa Clara women's soccer team and the West Coast Conference in goals (7), assists (8) and points (22). The 22 points in the month and two WCC Player of the Week honors recently helped her garner WCC Athlete of the Month honors for September. She now has scored 68 points in her career as a Bronco, moving her into 19th place all-time in the WCC. She is a 1998 graduate from Presentation High School in San Jose, where she graduated with a 4.01 g.p.a and was a four-year member of the school's National Honor Society.

Benjamin Gauen

Benjamin Gauen has matured into one of the top performer's both on and off the field for the Santa Clara men's cross country team. The sophomore from Seattle, Washington has finished second, 29th and 30th in the three races that the Broncos have competed in this season, helping the team to second, third and fourth place finishes. His second place finish came at the season opening Sacrament Invitational where he finished in a time of 21:24, just three seconds off the lead. He currently maintains a 3.62 grade point average in the college of business. He was a 2000 graduate of Seattle Preparatory where he was a member of the National Honor Society.
