SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference is pleased to announce the inaugural season of the WCC Commissioner's Cup, an all-sports award presented at the end of each academic year to the league's top performing school in conference play. A Men's and Women's All-Sports Award, commemorating athletic achievement within each gender, will also be presented.
The recipient of the Commissioner's Cup will be chosen based on a point system reflecting the place finish of each team in conference play. The Men's and Women's All-Sports Awards will be given to the schools that accumulate the most points within each particular gender. The institution with the highest point total, after combining the men's and women's points, will be honored with the Commissioner's Cup.
The points will be awarded based on regular-season or conference championship finishes in the league's 13 sponsored sports, with 8 points for the champion, 7 for second-place, 6 for third-place, 5 for fourth-place, 4 for fifth-place, 3 for sixth-place, 2 for seventh-place, and 1 for eighth-place.
Points will be awarded for regular-season conference finishes in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball. Men's and women's cross country, men's golf and men's and women's tennis will receive points based on finishes at the conference championship. As for women's golf and rowing, each participating school will be awarded the higher of their school's place finish in either sport. Institutions competing in both of those championships will only be awarded for their higher finish of the two, but not for both. In baseball, the only WCC sport with divisional play, regular season finish will be determined by the overall conference winning percentage.
In the event of a tie in the standings, the sum of the points for the tied positions will be divided equally among the tied teams.
The Commissioner's Cup, Men's All-Sports Award and Women's All-Sports Award will be presented annually in June, at the conclusion of the final sport season. A traveling trophy will be given to the awarded school's athletic director at the West Coast Conference's Spring Executive Committee meeting. A replica award will also be given to the school to keep as a permanent display.
The West Coast Conference will distribute press releases with updated Commissioner Cup standings at the end of the Fall and Winter seasons.
