Santa Clara Scholar-Athletes of the Week (February 4-10)

Roni Rivera and Jack Headley were named Santa Clara's Scholar-Athletes of the Week.

Roni Rivera

The junior from Azusa, Calif., is the backbone of the Bronco softball team according to head coach Marcy Crouch. She helped lead the Broncos to a 2-2 record over the weekend, including a doubleheader sweep over Sacramento State in Sacramento Sunday afternoon. She has racked up 41 hits through her first two seasons on the Mission campus, but it is her defense and leadership behind the plate that is most instrumental for the Broncos. Rivera has also excelled off the field, maintaining a 3.26 overall GPA in Communications, which also includes a 3.41 GPA for the fall quarter this year.

Jack Headley

The junior from Gilroy, Calif., has began the 2002 campaign where his first two seasons on the mission campus left off, collecting base hits and producing runs. He helped lead the Broncos to a 2-1 record over the weekend against No. 11 Fresno State, collecting four hits and knocking in three runs. Headley registered all three of his RBI on two hits Saturday afternoon during the Broncos' 8-4 win. He is a two-time All-WCC performer and is on pace again for another place among the nation's elite. He has also excelled off the diamond, maintaining a 3.03 cumulative GPA in Operations Management and Information Services.
