May 3, 2001
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Bronco Bench Foundation Executive Director Tom Zipse has resigned his position to pursue opportunities in private business, Santa Clara University Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick announced today.
"Tom Zipse has made a significant personal and professional contribution to Santa Clara University and should be commended for his dedication," said Levick. "In his 14 years of service, he has been instrumental in helping Bronco athletics provide academic and athletic opportunities for scores of student-athletes. We wish him well in all current and future endeavors."
Zipse began his position as executive director of the Bronco Bench Foundation in July, 1987. Since that time, he helped expand scholarship opportunities for Santa Clara University student-athletes through the expansion of the Bronco Bench Endowment Fund. The program currently provides 30 endowment scholarships and eight living scholarships, which are awarded to specific student-athletes in the name of the donor.
As executive director, Zipse also led the Bronco Bench Foundation to increased annual gifts to the University and provided the membership with a number of successful events and fund raisers.
"The best part of my job has been working with and on behalf of the student-athletes," said Zipse. "There have been a number of great athletes and, more importantly, great people that have come through the University during my tenure. They are what make Santa Clara University special.
The search for a replacement will be immediately.
