Local Greats come out to BBF Golf Tournament

More than 180 golfers took to the tees Sept. 14 at the 34th Annual San Jose Golf Classic in support of the Bronco Bench Foundation and Santa Clara University student-athletes. The event was held at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club, which offered plenty photo opportunities as alumni were greeted at holes by current Bronco student-athletes.
Joining Santa Clara Alumni and friends of the Bronco Bench Foundation were SCU Hall of Famers Brent Jones, ’85, Brandi Chastain, ’91 and Bud Ogden, ‘68. Also in attendance was NFL Great and Honorary Bronco, Jerry Rice, who played with the young alumni from the Women’s Golf Team.
After an afternoon of birdies, pars, and mulligans for a good cause golfers cooled off with freshly made margaritas and began the evening with a silent auction.
The evening festivities began with Brent Jones, who played the role of golfer, auctioneer and Master of Ceremonies throughout the event. SCU Alum and NFL referee Mike Carey joined him at the podium for a Q&A session before a live auction and dinner. Carey and Jones played off each other telling stories from college and the NFL, while providing insight into the current lockout between the NFL and the officials.
With the success of the 34th Annual San Jose Golf Classic still fresh in our mind, we look forward to the next great Bronco Bench Foundation event. Join us October 19, 2012 for Oktoberfest at the Gordon Biersch Brewery in San Jose. Go Broncos! Let’s Ride!
