BACK IN THE DAY: Rachel Henderson (Weber) Looks Back
Santa Clara is catching up with many of the women celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics. Today we look back with former Bronco women's soccer player Rachel Henderson ‘01 (Weber) (RH). Henderson played for Santa Clara from 1997-2000. Her senior year the team lost 2-1 in overtime in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Notre Dame She is now happy and healthy living in Davenport, Iowa. She is a pastor’s wife and mother of three wonderful little kids.

Kendall McIntosh Believes His Team Will be a Contender in December
Kendall McIntosh (KM), a sophomore goalkeeper has been living up to expectations in his first full year as a Bronco starter. In 2012, McIntosh represented the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team at the Northern Ireland Milk Cup. He has taken advantage of what he learned overseas and with the National Team and put it towards his success here at Santa Clara. With hard work and dedication McIntosh believes this team can make it to the postseason and contend into December.

In 2010 Patton was named to the All-WCC First Team and the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-West Region Second Team. She was named the league's October Player of the Month in 2010. She was also named All-WCC Honorable Mention in 2009.

Santa Clara is catching up with many of the women celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics. Today we look back with former Bronco women's basketball player Liz Bruno ‘82. Bruno owns the career mark for rebounds as a Bronco with 1,218 and is No. 16 on the Santa Clara all-time scoring list with 1,081 points. She is also the leader in free throw attempts with 549 while placing fourth in makes with 331. Bruno owns the top two single season rebounding seasons in 1980-81 and 1981-82.

A number of former Bronco’s will be returning to campus this weekend as the men’s water polo team hosts their annual alumni game on Sat., Oct. 19 at the Sullivan Aquatic Center at 12 pm. Harkins has the career scoring record at Santa Clara with 171 goals, and she was team captain and MVP in 2011, her senior year. Harkins was named to the WWPA All-Conference First Team in 2011 and to the 2008 WWPA All-Freshman team her rookie year.

BACK IN MY DAY: Gold Medalist Brandi Chastain '91 Looks Back As Part of the 50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics
Santa Clara is catching up with many of the women celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics. Today we look back with former Bronco women's soccer player Brandi Chastain '91 (BC). Chastain is best-known for scoring the winning goal in the 1999 World Cup as well playing soccer for the Broncos from 1989-90. In 1989, she led the team to its first-ever postseason appearance, scoring 10 goals and leading the Broncos into the national semifinals and a final ranking of No. 3 in the nation. She is currently in her fourth season working as a volunteer assistant with head coach Jerry Smith.

Ruta Zurauskyte at Full-Strength Heading Into Senior Campaign
The pieces had finally started to fall into place for Ruta Zurauskyte in late 2011. After two frustrating seasons marked by injury and inaction, Zurauskyte dazzled early in her junior season, including a 33-point, 13-rebound masterpiece against UC Irvine. On Dec. 15th of that year, Zurauskyte would tear her ACL in practice, derailing the breakout season she’d been working for.

Allie Vernon and her team have come a long way since her first season just five years ago. She started her collegiate career with a four-win season and has watched it grow to a Final Four caliber team. Chatting with Senior Ellie Rice
Senior defender Ellie Rice is very confident in her team’s ability to continue to move up the rankings and compete for the NCAA women’s soccer National Championship. The whole program has worked tirelessly to get their team to the next level. Having proved herself as a solid defender individually, Rice started all 21 games for the Broncos in 2012 and off the field was honored as a part of the West Coast Conference All-Academic team. This year she has played in six matches and looks forward to the matches vs. Kansas (Sept. 27) and Cal Poly (Sept. 29) this weekend.

Taylor Milton: A Rising Leader
The transition from being an underclassman on the court to an upperclassman is a sizable change. And this change does not come without the onset of many responsibilities. The expectation is that as a junior or senior athlete on the floor, you know exactly what is going on at all times and what needs to be done to put your team in the right position to win. Becoming a leader physically is one thing, but it is another to become an all around leader in a sport like volleyball that is filled with ups and downs. Kriege Looking Back On Her Career So Far
Many of us cannot stand to run. Most of us can’t even bear to run more than a mile. For Mary Kriege (MK), her life is all about running. Running on average about 60-70 miles a week, Kriege is a machine. With outstanding records so far in her collegiate years such as 21:16 in the 6k in 2012 NCAA West Region Championship, Kriege isn’t stopping.

Emily Robinson Trains Through the Summer
The summer is a time for runners to evaluate the past season, take a week or two off to recover, analyze where they need to improve and then begin the daily grind of becoming faster, stronger and tougher than ever before. One Bronco who is doing just that is Emily Robinson; a cross country and track student athlete for Santa Clara University. After a successful 2012 cross season, running personal bests of 18:15 in the 5K at the Bronco Invite and 21:58 at the West Regional meet in Seattle, Robinson is looking to use her time over the summer to acquire some quality training.

Yannick Atanga Looks Ahead to Next Season
Yannick Atanga (YA), a rising junior from Yaounde, Cameroon, was an offensive rebounding specialist in his second year of action for the Broncos. Atanga had a smooth transition from living in Cameroon to playing high school basketball in Los Angeles, where he was a John Wooden Award winner. He hopes that he can continue his smooth transition here at Santa Clara. He believes that his improved offensive game will really show on the court next season.

Baseball player, Matt Ozanne, Reflects on His Time Here at SCU
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Matt Ozanne (MO), a senior from Scottsdale, Arizona reflects on his time here as a player for the men’s baseball team. He finished his senior season with 23 runs and 24 RBI, both ranking in the top-three for the team. Ozanne also happens to have a twin brother, Drew, who is on the team as well. In 2009, Matt was drafted by the MLB to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Noda Blogs On Weekend At The Executive Forum at THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP
PricewaterhouseCoopers hosted four members of the 2012-13 class of The First Tee Scholars to attend the Executive Forum at THE PLAYERS Championship. The Scholars are in their freshmen year of college at various schools around the country and were selected by The First Tee because of their outstanding academic performance, community involvement, and leadership qualities. The purpose of the Scholars' attendance at THE PLAYERS was to heighten their awareness of corporate America and to meet senior executives who were in attendance. Allie Vernon (AV) is a rising redshirt senior from Homer Glen, Ill. Vernon won the West Coast Conference Freshman player of the year award her first year as a member of the women’s soccer team at SCU, but then was forced to redshirt as a sophomore due to an injury. After experiencing a severe back injury that almost prevented Vernon from ever playing soccer again, she talks about what motivated during recovery. Senior Maggie McGeorge Reflects On SCU Tennis Career
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With the West Coast Conference Championships being played this week, senior Maggie McGeorge (MM) is excited about finishing her SCU tennis career on a high note. The women’s tennis team went 11-9 overall and 7-1 in conference this year. McGeorge put up a 6-3 record overall in doubles with her partner Kelly Lamble. The two have proved to be very successful together over their four years of playing doubles together. She received back-to-back WCC honorable mentions her freshman and sophomore year for her doubles play with Lamble. Balbina Guajardo Balances Golf and School
The senior from Monterrey, Mexico has certainly learned how to balance between being on the women’s golf team and the academic rigor of studying psychology. Balbina Guajardo (BG) transferred from Houston Baptist where she helped lead the college to back-to-back Great West Conference titles and was named GWC ‘Player of the Year.’ This past season, she was Santa Clara’s scoring leader and competed in all nine events for the Broncos. An Inside With The Men's Tennis Team's Newest Member
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After working in the Athletic Department and covering the men's tennis team throughout this school year, junior Vince Menon (VM) has officially become a member of the team. Menon made his doubles debut on March 1, 2013 at Saint Mary's College and his first singles appearance on March 3rd against UC Irvine. The team has a 13-9 record overall with three more league matches before the WCC Championship Tournament. Last year, the team had one of their most successful years and finished the season ranked No. 33 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. After making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year, Menon and the team hope to once again continue play long after their regular season. Coming off a great season and making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, freshman goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski is inspired to get even better next season. She started all 20 games she appeared in and had a season-high of 11 saves against BYU with 73 overall. Tostanoski also received a WCC All-Freshman Team selection. After completing winter training, Tostanoski is motivated for the team's five exhibition games in the coming spring.

Already School Record Holder, Pham Plays For More
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After recently breaking the all-time singles win record at Santa Clara University with a win over Sonoma State, senior tennis star Tom Pham hopes to continue his great success to make it to the NCAA’s once again. Women's Soccer Goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski Talks About Injuries, Interests, and Inspiration
With eight other freshmen on the Santa Clara University women's soccer roster, goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski hopes to make an impact on the team in her first collegiate season. Tostanoski is still in the process of recovering from her groin injury that happened in a game nine months ago. "It has been a grueling process to recover from but the experience was incredibly motivating," said Tostanoski. She took one month off of playing so that she could recover all of the muscles in her groin.

Iman Scott of Bronco Women's Basketball Expected to Bring Her "A-Game" Back to the Court Soon
Iman Scott of the Bronco women’s basketball team is a San Jose local who starred at Division II powerhouse, Archbishop Mitty High School. Due to an ACL injury, Scott sat out the majority of her senior year at Mitty. Although the ACL injury kept her out of preseason practices with the Broncos when she arrived, Scott returned later in the year to become a part of the Bronco’s rotation. She averaged 16.6 minutes per game during a stretch in December of 2010 and played in 23 of 30 games as a true freshman. Prior to last season, Scott tore her Achilles and was not able to play. Since then, she has been working hard to be able to get back on the court to play as a Bronco. For this upcoming season, Scott is almost ready to bring her “A game” on to the court. Scott (IS) shared with SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) what her recovery process has been like and how much she looks forward to playing with the team again.

Summer For SCU Men's Water Polo

Bronco Harrier Works to Design Bamboo Housing in Haiti
Chris Sampson’s senior project was not the typical research paper or in-depth project that is merely for the benefit of the student. As a civil engineering major who would graduate in June of 2012, Sampson’s senior design project was for the benefit of those in need. With many parts of the world in dire need of sustainable and cost-effective housing that will survive natural disasters, the Bronco cross country student-athlete came to the conclusion that his skills would be best utilized assisting others. Along with his partner Jake Echeverria, the two Santa Clarans developed a design for bamboo housing in Haiti.

Baseball's Herbst Gets Dream-Come-True Text

Bronco Volleyball Student-Athletes Compete in Iron Bronco
Each year during spring quarter, students hit the gym, the pavement, and the pool, more than ever to participate in the annual Iron Bronco. This event is a spinoff of the well-known Iron Man, a triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mi swim, 112 mi bike ride, and 26.2 mi run. Santa Clara students, as well as staff, are able to compete on their own or in groups of 3 over the two weeks. This year, a number of Bronco volleyball players decided to test out the race and compete together. Checking-In with Greg Harisis
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With only a month of games left to play, the Santa Clara baseball season is on the home stretch of the 2012 baseball season. SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) was able to catch up with sophomore shortstop, Greg Harisis (GH), to talk about his experience as a student-athlete and how he plans to help the Broncos finish the season. Harisis has started 17 games while making 26 appearances overall and leads the team with a .412 (28-68) batting average. He has scored 18 runs to go with seven RBI and four doubles. This past weekend, Harisis blasted his first career home run on April 28 vs. Saint Mary’s over the right field wall at Schott Stadium. He has a terrific .467 on-base percentage that is helped by his six walks.

Talking with SCU's Baseball Operations Assistant Kellen Lee
As the Bronco baseball operations assistant for SCU Kellen Lee has his plate full, especially with the transition from player to administrator. Lee previously played catcher for the now SCU Baseball Coach Dan O’Brien at UC San Diego, where Lee graduated with a double major in Communications and Psychology in 2011. Muchynski's Clutch Wins Help Broncos To Top 30 Ranking
Bronco junior men’s tennis player Eugene Muchynski has developed into a reliable and clutch performer for the 30th ranked team in the nation. In Santa Clara’s upset 4-3 win over then-No. 19-ranked USD on April 15, Muchynski came through with a key win at No. 5 singles, helping the Broncos defeat a top 20 team for the first time in program history. Muchynski has received high praise from head coach Derek Mills on helping the Broncos win some key matches this year with his singles play as well. Meet the Rising Bronco Student-Athlete, Ben Demaree
One of the Bronco student-athletes to watch in the spring of 2012 is the sophomore track athlete, Ben Demaree. He finished the 2011 cross country season by consistently earning the top two spots on the Bronco team in every race that he participated in. He was named All-WCC after finishing 13th at the WCC Championships in late October. In addition to being one of the top cross country runners last fall, he is also an excellent student. Demaree carries a 3.940 as a Bio-Engineering major; and the men’s cross country team posted the highest GPA at 3.55 for the Fall 2011 quarter for the third straight quarter. They also had the highest cumulative GPA at 3.29.

Jacobe Ready and Prepared for Freshman Season
C.J. Jacobe’s dream of playing professional baseball came true when he was drafted by the Oakland A’s in the 45th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Even though he was happy and honored to be drafted, he decided to continue to work on improving his skills to become an even better player. As a result, the Vacaville, Calif. native enrolled at Santa Clara in Sept. and is a freshman on the baseball team.

After redshirting as a freshman, Molly Mettler (MM) has gotten multiple chances to fill in at goal this year as a sophomore. None was bigger than when Mettler stepped in for the injured All-American Bianca Henninger in the waning minutes against Cal on September 25th. After closing the 3-0 shutout victory against Cal, Mettler went on to post two shutouts of her own against Nevada and San Diego State, respectively. Standing at 6’9, sophomore John McArthur (JM) is a force to be reckoned with. Over the course of his high school career at De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif., McArthur led his team to a stunning 111-12 record. Douglas Returns to the Court
Almost one year after suffering a season-ending injury, Katherine Douglas (KD) is back in her hard-hitting form. Meleana Shim (MS), a native from Honolulu, Hawaii and a rising junior has played an integral role for Santa Clara women’s soccer. In the past two years, Shim has played in 42 of the last 45 games. Incoming Santa Clara freshman basketball player Raymond Cowels (RC) is already a Santa Clara University student after graduating from high school in June. The 6-4, 205lb. forward was first-team all-state honoree his junior and senior years.

Women’s Club Rugby Team Qualifies For USA Rugby Women’s College Sevens National Championships
